Quang Ninh: A teacher at Vo Ngai Primary School was suspended from teaching for using a ruler to hit a student on the head, causing the student to have a headache and swollen eyes.
The suspension decision was issued by the People's Committee of Binh Lieu on the afternoon of April 12 to verify and clarify responsibilities after the female student was beaten by this teacher and is currently hospitalized for treatment.
The incident occurred at 3:00 p.m. on April 9 at Na Nhai, Vo Ngai Primary School. According to the report, the teacher was instructing students to do a math exercise, but a second grader could not do it and was not paying attention. Because she could not remind him, the teacher used a ruler to hit the student on the head.
Late in the afternoon, the family saw that their child had swollen eyes and a headache, so they called the teacher and took the child to the Binh Lieu District Medical Center for examination.
The female teacher then reported the incident to the school, apologized to the student and pledged to pay the hospital fees and compensate for the student's physical and mental damage.
By noon on April 10, the female student still had swelling in both eyes and mild pain, so she was transferred to the provincial hospital. According to doctors at Quang Ninh General Hospital, she had swelling in the soft tissue of her head and eyes, but no brain damage.

The Education Law stipulates that teachers are not allowed to insult the honor or body of students. Depending on the severity, there are four forms of disciplinary action for teachers if they are found to have violated the law, including reprimand, warning, dismissal or forced resignation.
