Answering a question about the education sector's management role in school meals, Ms. Lan said that the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training has repeatedly directed its affiliated units to organize boarding meals that are absolutely safe in terms of food hygiene.
“For many years, organizing meals for boarding students has been considered one of the key issues, closely linked to the responsibility of the education sector in caring for students. This must be done seriously and in full compliance with food safety and hygiene regulations,” Ms. Lan said.
At the same time, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education also coordinated with functional units to organize training courses to improve knowledge of food hygiene and safety for staff serving food at schools. The Department also coordinated with the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety to organize interdisciplinary inspections.
Schools are also assigned by the Department to coordinate with the parents' representative committee to closely monitor the entire process of receiving food, developing menus, and preparing food to ensure balanced nutrition for students.
As Tien Phong reported, on the afternoon of April 9, parents of children studying at Vo Thi Sau Primary School reported that many students vomited, could not eat, had stomach aches, and had fevers after coming home from school, so their families had to take them to the hospital for examination.
According to the report, the school recorded 21 students absent from school due to stomachache, vomiting and diarrhea. Of these, 7 students were examined at the hospital and sent home for care and monitoring. Currently, the situation of the 21 students has stabilized.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety has taken samples of food stored at the school and student specimens for testing, and also inspected the school's food supplier.
