Although playing at home ground Pleiku in round 17 of V-League 2024-2025, the quality of the squad of Hoang Anh Gia Lai Club (HAGL) is still considered lower than Binh Duong due to the "storm" of injuries.
However, after a convincing victory in the quarter-finals of the National Cup, Binh Duong was somewhat subjective when traveling to Pleiku Stadium to face HAGL.

With ineffective attacks, Binh Duong conceded another goal at the end of the match, after Merciel's quick counter-attack and perfect finish in the 90+1 minute. The impressive victory over a strong opponent helped HAGL gain 21 points and temporarily rise to 8th place in the rankings after 17 matches played.
Meanwhile, Binh Duong lost the opportunity to narrow the gap in points with the leading group and is at risk of falling out of the top 5 after the 17th round ends.
