Realizing potential

Thanks to the correct economic restructuring towards services - tourism - trade, agriculture - fishery, small-scale industry and other industries" based on the potential and advantages of the locality, in recent years, Cam Chau ward's economy has grown rapidly, the quality of life of local people has been significantly improved. The service - tourism - trade industry has become the leading economic sector, accounting for more than 70% of the economic structure of the ward.

According to the survey data compiled by Hoi An City, Cam Chau is currently the locality with the most accommodation facilities in the city.

The whole ward has 38 hotels, 202 accommodation establishments (including 99 tourist villas, 100 homestays, 3 motels) and 183 houses for foreigners to rent. The total number of guests staying in 2023 is 255,601, the number of days staying is 257,518 days.

There were 83 new households starting service businesses, bringing the total number of business households in the ward to 1,172. The total production value of individual households reached about 135.5 billion VND, reaching 100.37% of the plan and increasing 66.9 billion VND compared to the previous year.

Ms. Pham Thi Van - Head of the Front Work Committee of Son Pho 2 Ward said that the number of hotels, restaurants, and houses rented to foreigners in Cam Chau has grown strongly every year. "Tourism development has affected the lives of people in the ward. Cam Chau residents now have a civilized life, eating well and dressing well, which is also thanks to tourism" - Ms. Van said.

As a ward-level administrative unit, Cam Chau ward currently has more than 180 hectares of agricultural land, more than 40 hectares of aquaculture water surface with natural landscapes and ecological environment full of potential and advantages.

Thanks to the conversion of crop and livestock structures suitable to the soil conditions of each region, linking production with tourism services, people have the opportunity to benefit more.

With the space for tourism and service development in An My village with products to experience rural life, plowing fields, bailing water, riding buffaloes, etc.; sightseeing activities, exploring the river scene, fields, countryside, cuisine in the ecological area of shrimp farming lakes in An My and Thanh Tay blocks, etc., Cam Chau ward is increasingly attracting a large number of tourists, creating more jobs and increasing income for people.

Mr. Vo Viet Bao - Head of the Front Work Committee of An My Bloc said that with the favorable position of fields and rivers, the city and ward are implementing the construction of An My into a tourist village. "Every day, foreign tourists go sightseeing by bicycle throughout the whole village and fields.

Besides, An My is one of the blocks with a rapidly growing population in recent years because in addition to local people who have lived here for a long time, the number of people from other places coming to buy land to settle down is increasing," said Mr. Bao.

New look

Mr. Luong Son - Secretary of the Party Committee of Cam Chau Ward confirmed: "With the advantage of being a ward but still having a large area of agricultural land and a large area of water for aquaculture, we focus on directing this area towards developing eco-tourism, while creating conditions for local people to both do agriculture and tourism to improve their lives."

Agriculture, fishery and handicraft production such as traditional lanterns, ceramic lanterns, garments, carpentry, mechanics, bamboo and coconut painting services... have been boldly invested in by the people in modern production, connecting tourism services in residential areas, which has also contributed to bringing high economic efficiency and increasing income for the people.

The total budget revenue of Cam Chau ward in 2023 reached nearly 22.9 billion VND, exceeding the plan by 7.15%. Economic growth has helped increase per capita income, the rate of well-off and rich households is increasing. The whole ward has only 1 poor household under social protection, no near-poor households.

Ms. Tran Thi Mien (in An My block, Cam Chau ward) confided: "Compared to before when I only did farming and flower growing, now I feel completely different. When I switched to tourism and many other things, my life has improved a lot."

Coming to Cam Chau today, it is easy to see that the urban landscape has changed significantly. All roads have been paved, the environment is spacious, green - clean - beautiful. The school system, medical stations, cultural institutions... have been solidly built, meeting the needs of serving the people.

Along with the State's investment, the people of Cam Chau ward have also contributed, voluntarily donated land to open roads, participated in leveling the ground, as well as contributed funds to concrete and harden village roads, alleys and canals, and ditches in the fields to build the locality into a civilized, safe, friendly ecological urban area, attracting a large number of tourists from near and far.
