14 years ago, the people of Lam Son sugarcane area and Lam Son Sugarcane Joint Stock Company (Lasuco) were honored to welcome the visit of National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong. The attention and profound and clear instructions on the model of linking workers - farmers - intellectuals in sugarcane production and business at that time became the direction and great source of encouragement for the people of the localities and Lasuco to unite and cooperate to renew sugarcane and sugar, enriching families and society.

Years have passed, but the images and souvenirs of the day National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong visited Lasuco are still preserved by Labor Hero Le Van Tam - the company's "captain".
Although he is 87 years old this year, Labor Hero Le Van Tam still remembers clearly the memory of meeting the National Assembly Chairman more than 14 years ago. That was on January 9, 2010, before the Lunar New Year of the Tiger, the Central working delegation led by the National Assembly Chairman visited, learned about and grasped the production situation of the people in Lam Son sugarcane area and Lam Son Sugarcane Joint Stock Company to serve the preparation of documents to be submitted to the 11th National Party Congress. His deepest impression of National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong was his simple, close, open and affectionate style, treating everyone as relatives.

"As a person who is close to the grassroots, respects the people, and is attached to the people, National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong told me: "Take me to visit the people of Lam Son sugarcane area". After hearing me introduce the large-scale sugarcane growing model between Lasuco and the people of Cam Chau commune (Cam Thuy), the National Assembly Chairman agreed to go to Cam Chau. Upon arrival, in the dry winter weather, the National Assembly Chairman went to the sugarcane fields of Oi village to meet and inquire about the sugarcane growing work of each household and the tractor drivers working the land there. Holding each person's hand, the National Assembly Chairman asked: "Is the income of the people growing sugarcane guaranteed? Is there any difficulty in expanding the sugarcane growing area to a large-scale field?" The simple, friendly greetings of the head of the highest State authority dispelled the hardships of the sugarcane farmers. Also welcoming National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong that day was Chairman of Cam Chau Commune People's Committee Ha Van Lap. He replied: "Sir, to implement the policy of land consolidation, the Party Committee and the commune government have coordinated with Lam Son Sugarcane Joint Stock Company to cooperate with local farmers to build a model of intensive sugarcane cultivation. The conversion of ineffective production land to sugarcane has been carried out by the people in the commune for many crop years, with high productivity, output and economic efficiency. In the peak year, the whole Cam Chau commune had about 200 hectares of raw sugarcane, with a yield of nearly 80 tons/ha. This large-scale intensive sugarcane field with mechanization application is the first time that the people in the commune have implemented it. The field has a scale of nearly 100 hectares running along Ho Chi Minh Road. This is an area of single-crop rice that is not guaranteed to be profitable."

Hearing the report on the effectiveness of sugarcane on Cam Chau land, the National Assembly Chairman was very excited. At the same time, he hoped that the people of all ethnic groups in the commune would always be united, close, and support each other in developing production and building a prosperous and happy life, continuing to cooperate with Lam Son Sugarcane Joint Stock Company to exploit the advantages of land to expand the sugarcane growing area, creating more jobs, increasing income and escaping poverty. Although the time National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong stopped in Cam Chau was not long, the local officials and people of all ethnic groups present that day still kept in their hearts the image of the head of the highest State power agency, rustic, close, warm and loving.
Leaving Cam Chau, the National Assembly Chairman and the delegation returned to visit Lam Son Sugar Factory. “That day, the National Assembly Chairman proactively came to shake hands, chat, ask about the lives and work of each cadre, worker and employee of the company and took souvenir photos with everyone. I was lucky to have National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong hold my hand and take a private photo. The eyes and gentle smile of the National Assembly Chairman more than 14 years ago, I still feel like it was just yesterday," Mr. Le Van Tam emotionally recalled.
Leading the National Assembly Chairman to visit the factory's production line, Mr. Le Van Tam took the opportunity to report on the company's situation. Lam Son Sugar Company is a state-owned enterprise under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, invested in and built in the early 80s of the 20th century. After more than 20 years of construction and development, the company was once on the brink of bankruptcy. In 1999, Lam Son Sugar Company was transformed into Lam Son Sugar Joint Stock Company. This is the first enterprise in the country where farmers were allowed to buy shares of the factory and enjoy the same rights as workers. The sugarcane raw material area was expanded, the industrial - agricultural - intellectual cooperation continued to develop, contributing to promoting the industrialization and modernization of agriculture and rural areas. The company is the only unit in the Vietnamese sugar industry that effectively signed investment contracts to advance product consumption with farmers in the raw material area. The result is the crystallization of the cooperative relationship between workers, farmers and intellectuals, and the tireless efforts in labor and creativity of the company's staff and workers as well as sugarcane farmers in the region.

From understanding the situation of sugarcane growers and the factory's operations, National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong highly appreciated the efforts and results that Lasuco has achieved. The National Assembly Chairman said: "Implementing the Party's policies and guidelines, the company has linked industry with agriculture, developed the worker-peasant class alliance, bonded with the people, relied on the people and helped farmers solve the problem of employment and income, rose up to become rich and built the Lam Son sugarcane area to become increasingly large-scale", Mr. Tam shared.
In front of all the company's staff and workers, National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong hoped that Lam Son Sugarcane Joint Stock Company would continue to research, summarize and propose to the province and the Central Government on the issue of developing the worker-peasant class alliance in the socialist-oriented market economy. Especially the relationship of benefit distribution between sugarcane farmers - factories - the State. In fact, the cooperation model between Lasuco and farmers in the Lam Son sugarcane area is a vivid demonstration of the close connection between enterprises and farmers. Enterprises and farmers need to rely on each other and be closely connected, this is both the goal and the driving force to promote sustainable production and business development.
The profound and clear theoretical and practical instructions on the model of linking workers - farmers - intellectuals in sugarcane production and business, together with the enthusiasm and wishes of the head of the highest State power agency, are the direction for Lasuco to develop sustainably and strongly with many products bearing the Thanh brand.

Keeping in mind the correct instructions of the National Assembly Chairman, Lasuco staff and workers have worked tirelessly and creatively to build and sustainably develop the sugarcane raw material area. The focus is on synchronously implementing major solutions in the program "Renewing Lam Son sugarcane and sugar grains" in the direction of concentration, building large fields, synchronous mechanization, and applying high technology. And from sugarcane, industrial products bearing the brand of Thanh Hoa homeland have been formed. At the same time, creating jobs, increasing income and helping many households in the sugarcane raw material area to escape poverty, enriching their families and society.
In recent years, Lasuco has developed high-tech agricultural products such as high-quality vegetables, flowers, fruits, organic rice production, and construction materials from clay. In addition, Lasuco has also developed other business lines such as alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage industry; agricultural and forestry product processing; animal feed; transportation and mechanical services; supply of raw materials, production and varieties of plants and animals; consumption of products, processing of agricultural and food products; trade, hotels, catering; import and export of agricultural and forestry products and machinery, equipment, materials, spare parts for production and business; research and development of agricultural and industrial science; clean water for production and daily life, repair and processing services of machinery, equipment and agricultural and forestry land preparation services.
Respecting, admiring and following the example of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, the staff and workers of Lam Son Sugarcane Joint Stock Company continue to uphold the core value of "always thinking of new things and daring to change", striving to build and develop LASUCO to become a leading enterprise in Vietnam applying high technology in developing clean products from nature with high nutritional content, meeting the expectations of global consumers.
