Join hands to prevent human trafficking

Việt NamViệt Nam29/07/2023

Human trafficking is currently a global problem, seriously affecting human rights; economic, political, social stability, security of nations and peoples and is the direct cause of many other crimes. Therefore, since 2013, the United Nations has launched a global crime prevention program and chosen July 30 every year as the World Day against Trafficking in Persons.

This year, the theme of the World Day against Trafficking in Persons was proposed by the United Nations as: "reaching out to every victim of human trafficking, leaving no one behind" with the desire to raise awareness of the worrying trends and developments in the world of human trafficking that need to be recognized by everyone to increase efforts in prevention and support for victims.

In Vietnam, on May 10, 2016, the Prime Minister issued a decision to designate July 30 as the National Day for the Prevention and Control of Human Trafficking. Also since 2016, the Government's Steering Committee for Crime Prevention and Control (called Steering Committee 138/CP) has presided over activities to celebrate the National Day for the Prevention and Control of Human Trafficking on July 30 to promote the combined strength of the entire political system and the entire population to participate in preventing, stopping, and eventually repelling human trafficking crimes.

For Ninh Binh province, on July 5, 2023, the Provincial People's Committee issued Document No. 429/UBND-VP6 on strengthening the fight against human trafficking and implementing activities in response to "National Day for Prevention and Combat of Human Trafficking - July 30". Human trafficking is a "super profitable" illegal business activity, second only to drug and weapons trafficking. Therefore, many greedy people have become criminals of human trafficking, making this activity very complicated in recent years.

According to a report, human trafficking has occurred in all provinces and cities of our country. In Ninh Binh province, most recently on December 6, 2022, Pham Van D, born in 1987 in Tuyen Quang, sold Ban Thi TT, born in March 2008 in Bac Giang, to Vu Thi H, in Ninh Phuc commune, Ninh Binh city for 16 million VND to work as a waitress at a karaoke bar.... Currently, the authorities have initiated a case and prosecuted Pham Van D and Vu Thi H for the crime of "trafficking in people under 16 years old".

Through many cases, it is shown that the subjects of human trafficking crimes are mainly women and children. Criminals take advantage of the lack of knowledge and awareness of a few people; difficult economic circumstances or bad luck in life; or there are people who "want to do little labor but demand high income"; or women with unhappy marriages; minors who lack family and school education and management, like to party, show off, drop out of school to wander around... so that they can lure and entice them to gradually become victims of human traffickers. The tricks and methods of human traffickers are very diverse, but mainly they are still marriage brokers with foreign elements, labor export, or travel, or introduce light jobs with high salaries...

There are criminals who take advantage of social networks to get to know people, pretend to be in love, invite them to go out, eat... then sell them across the border or sell them to other traffickers.... Those who become victims of human trafficking will have to do hard, toxic work, be imprisoned, beaten, or have their organs removed for sale. Many women or girls are sold across the border to be wives, prostitutes, or serve in sensitive services...

When it comes to human trafficking, perhaps everyone is indignant and angry at the criminals who have lost all humanity, and at the same time sympathizes with the lives and fates of those who have become victims of human trafficking. Their lives are despised and their human dignity is trampled upon. Even if they are rescued from slavery by the authorities, the psychological trauma, humiliation, and misfortune during the time of being beaten and forced to do things they do not want to do are hard to erase.

Therefore, the whole society should join hands and contribute to preventing human trafficking through specific actions and deeds. For organizations, units and localities, it is necessary to further promote propaganda work, raise awareness for people, especially women and girls in remote areas about the tricks of human trafficking criminals. Strengthen administrative management of population movement in the area, especially in villages, hamlets and hamlets. Do a good job of coordination between families, schools and society in managing, motivating and educating children not to drop out of school and fall into social evils.

Promote the role of the Fatherland Front and mass organizations in propagating, educating, and managing members and union members to prevent and combat human trafficking. The police and border guards play the core role in establishing special projects, coordinating with international organizations and relevant agencies of neighboring countries in the region and around the world to fight and destroy human trafficking rings....

For each individual, be wary of promises of finding a job, invitations to do business, invitations to travel both domestically and internationally. Be brave enough to refuse financial or material help from strangers or new acquaintances. If you plan to travel far, you must carefully research the place you are going to and inform your family and relatives before going far.

If you see unusual activities of suspicious subjects in the area, quickly report to the authorities, local Party committees, and local governments... In places where people who were unfortunately trafficked and have now returned, please have a friendly, sharing view and take positive actions "towards each victim, leaving no one behind" as the United Nations' theme this year, and actively help them integrate into the community.
