Recently, on a large forum about cars and transportation in Vietnam, a user shared his not-so-smooth experience using an electric BYD Han car on a trip from Ho Chi Minh City to Da Lat.

BYD electric car owner confidently travels Saigon - Da Lat. |
Because he trusted too much in the travel distance announced by BYD, the car owner encountered an unexpected situation when the BYD Han electric car's battery quickly drained on a mountain pass, causing the journey to be interrupted and incurring rescue costs.

According to the announcement, BYD Han can run up to 598km on a single full charge. |
According to the share, this person used the BYD Han electric car to travel from Ho Chi Minh City to Da Lat, an estimated distance of about 400 km. In theory, according to the company's announcement, BYD Han can run up to 598 km with just one full charge.

BYD Han car owner departed from Ho Chi Minh City to Da Lat with 87% battery. |
Therefore, the car owner is confident in the vehicle's performance, especially when a sales staff of the company also advised that if fully charged to 100%, the BYD Han electric car can reach Da Lat without needing to charge again.

Arriving at Cam Lam, the car reported that the remaining battery was enough to go 135 kms. While Google Maps showed that there were only 112 kms left to reach Da Lat. |
Due to personal matters before departure, the car only had 87% battery left when it started from Tan Phu district, Ho Chi Minh City. The owner said that the BYD Han ran smoothly, stably, and had many modern technologies. During the trip, the driver used Comfort mode when driving in the city and Sport mode when entering the highway.

However, when going up the pass, everything changed very quickly. The battery gradually decreased to 10% and then to 5% after only a few dozen meters of the pass. |
After leaving the highway and entering the mountain pass, the car reported 22% battery remaining, with an estimated range of 135 km, while the distance to Da Lat was only 112 km.
Trusting in the vehicle's capabilities, this user decided not to stop to charge the BYD Han's battery but continued up the pass, thinking that the regenerative braking system could help extend the travel distance.

Finally, the car owner, BY Han, had to stop and call a tow truck at a cafe in the middle of Ngoan Muc pass. |
The company's customer service staff also advised the owner to charge the battery in Phan Thiet before going up the pass, but he still decided to test the car's limits.
When reaching the middle of the pass, the battery drained faster than expected, only 2% left 40 km from Da Lat. Unable to continue moving, the driver was forced to call for help to take the car to a fast charging station in Da Lat that he had researched in advance. However, this charging station did not work, forcing him to charge slowly at a nearby hotel.

The tow truck transported the BYD Han to a fast charging station in Da Lat that the owner had researched beforehand. However, the charging station was not working. |
By the next morning, the car had 70% charge, enough to continue the journey to the fast charging station in Bao Loc before returning to Ho Chi Minh City. This incident cost the driver more than 2 million VND in rescue costs and took half a day to deal with the problem.

At another charging station, the car charged 70% overnight, enough to continue the journey to the fast charging station in Bao Loc before returning to Ho Chi Minh City. |
The actual experience of car owners shows that the number of kilometers traveled by electric vehicles does not only depend on the technical specifications announced by the manufacturer, but is also affected by many other factors.
