Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee: Do not let businesses complain about power shortages

DNVN - According to the Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee, last year many businesses suffered power outages, which greatly affected their production and business activities. This year, there must be no power shortages and no complaints from businesses about this issue.

At the dialogue conference to remove difficulties and promote production and business for enterprises investing and operating in industrial parks and clusters in Hanoi on April 5 in Hanoi, a representative of Terumo Vietnam Company (Quang Minh Industrial Park) raised difficulties related to the electricity supply situation in the past year.

In Vietnam, electricity supply is managed by many units, so there are differences in electricity supply depending on the region. In Quang Minh Industrial Park, there are currently 10 power supply lines, including 8 power lines from Hanoi and 2 power supply lines from Vinh Phuc.

The presence of multiple power providers has led to rolling power outages. In 2023, there were 6 power outages lasting a total of 58 hours. The longest outage lasted 16 hours.

Recently, the company received a document requesting savings from EVN in 2024. The company itself is implementing many measures to reduce electricity consumption.

Enterprises recommend that Hanoi City leaders direct and operate to ensure adequate and stable electricity supply for enterprises.

"Through the conference, we hope that the Hanoi People's Committee will give instructions and management to ensure adequate and stable power supply for businesses; notify businesses early when there is a power outage schedule. At the same time, there will be preferential policies for businesses with high awareness of saving electricity.

We believe in the further development and growth of Vietnam's economy and wish to continue accompanying Vietnamese partners in the future," said the company representative.

Thanking businesses for their energy-saving spirit, EVN Hanoi General Director Nguyen Anh Tuan admitted that in 2026, there were 6 power outages due to grid problems. Power shortages occurred throughout the North last year.

To ensure that there will be no power outages in 2024, in the event of prolonged hot weather, EVN Hanoi has prepared response plans. Every month, EVN Hanoi develops an operational plan and directs its affiliated power companies to implement the approved plan to ensure safe, reliable, and stable power supply for all electricity loads in Hanoi.

At the beginning of the year, the Hanoi People's Committee issued Decision No. 266 approving the electricity supply plan in Hanoi in 2024, including developing a plan to regulate and reduce electricity when the national power system lacks power.

In case the national power system lacks power, it is necessary to reduce power according to the principle of ensuring power supply for important electricity customers of the city.

Recently, EVN Hanoi has asked businesses to proactively shift their operating hours away from peak hours to ensure the safety of the power system. Currently, more than 600 businesses have signed an agreement to voluntarily shift their operating hours away from peak hours to ensure the operational security of the system.

"Hereby, we would like to thank businesses for proactively saving electricity internally and reducing the load during peak hours. This will help ensure safer and more stable power supply," said a representative of EVN Hanoi.

Regarding this issue, Mr. Tran Sy Thanh - Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee emphasized that Hanoi cannot afford to have a power shortage. Last year, many businesses suffered power outages, which greatly affected production and business activities. This year, there must be no power shortage, and no complaints from businesses.

"EVN Hanoi needs to operate in such a way that there will be no power outages this year, ensuring enough electricity for production, business and consumption activities.

The key point is that EVN Hanoi needs to report to the Ministry of Industry and Trade on the method of managing electricity supply in the upcoming summer when demand increases. If warranty or maintenance is required, it must be reported in advance. Cutting off power without notice is extremely dangerous for businesses," said Chairman Tran Sy Thanh.
