Causes and trend forecasts
According to experts, the price of live pigs is likely to continue to decrease, especially in the Northern and Central regions. The apprehension of farmers and processing enterprises has made transactions in the market less active.
One of the main reasons for the prolonged price decline is the excess supply after the Lunar New Year holiday. Many farmers sold their livestock at the same time, combined with the fear of disease recurrence, causing supply to far exceed demand.
In addition, production costs remain high while selling prices have fallen, significantly narrowing the profit margins of livestock farmers. If this situation continues, many households may face the risk of losses if prices do not recover soon in April.
In addition, the changing seasons also affect pork consumption demand. Major distribution channels such as restaurants, schools, and industrial parks have not yet operated at full capacity after the holiday, causing consumption pressure to be concentrated on retail channels, which currently have low purchasing power.
