"I think winning is luck. My friends are all very good, I was just a little luckier so I was able to break through successfully in the Finish Line competition," student Xuan Manh shared with emotion and wanted to dedicate this victory to those who have always accompanied him, including his deceased grandmother.

Le Xuan Manh, Ham Rong High School - Thanh Hoa became the champion of Road to Olympia 2023.

Sharing his secret to studying to surpass his excellent competitors and win the laurel wreath, Le Xuan Manh said he only read textbooks and consulted information online.

Sharing about the dramatic minutes in the final match this morning, Le Xuan Manh admitted that he did not enter the race well. In the 36 questions of the Warm-up round, he had the right to answer nearly half but only gave the correct answer to 4 questions, earning 10 points, ranking near the bottom, while the other contestants all got 30 - 55 points.

In the Obstacle Course, he was even more nervous when, right after the first horizontal question, his teammate Viet Thanh answered the keyword correctly, taking the lead in the race. "At that time, I still only had 10 points in hand, it was very stressful," Manh said.

Continuing in the Acceleration round, Trong Thanh made a strong breakthrough, leaving behind his three other players. Meanwhile, although he completed four questions in this round, Manh still did not score as many points as his friends, and was at the bottom of the race.

"I sat down, covered my face, blamed myself for not performing well, and felt regretful," the male student recalled. In this round, the Thanh Hoa student won 90 more points, but was still 75 points behind Trong Thanh - the leader of the race at that time.

At the end of the competition, many people thought that the race for the championship was between Viet Thanh and Trong Thanh as they were chasing each other closely. However, instead of being sad, Xuan Manh decided to choose the strategy of playing all-in with three 30-point questions and taking advantage of every opportunity to win points from other contestants. "At that time, I calculated that if I played aggressively in the Finish line round, I could earn a maximum of 120 - 150 points, still having a chance to take the lead in the race," Manh said.

The male student won 30 points in the first question about the famous person Tran Tuan Khai. In the second question about Mathematics, Manh's answer was incorrect but no points were deducted because the person who had the right to answer, Viet Thanh, also did not answer correctly.

Xuan Manh chose the star of hope in the final question, asking about the animal that Vietnamese scientists successfully cloned in March 2021. Manh initially answered "cow", then changed to "pig" in the last seconds. The male student won an additional 60 points amid cheers from the audience.

"Without these 60 points, I would have had almost no chance of winning," Manh said. At that time, he had 190 points, rising to second place and only 25 points behind Trong Thanh, who was leading.

The race changed completely when Manh answered correctly the 30-point question in Minh Triet's package, officially taking the throne from Trong Thanh. Manh won with 220 points, causing the whole studio to explode.

The male student from Ham Rong High School said: "I went all out for the Finish Line competition with the mentality of having nothing to lose and I succeeded. A victory requires both knowledge and luck. I think I have both."

The finish line was the most impressive and emotional part of the competition for Xuan Manh.

Winning the 1.2 billion VND prize from the final match of Road to Olympia 2023, Xuan Manh is still confused, has no plans for the future, and has no intention of studying abroad. "For now, I only think about 'having a meal' with my family, neighbors, friends, and teachers in my hometown," he said.

Ms. Vu Thi Huong, mother of champion Le Xuan Manh, was touched and proud of her son's performance. The mother said that Manh had outstanding development when he learned to read at the age of three. Meanwhile, Manh's older brother is also a boy with outstanding learning ability. Therefore, the two brothers always taught each other to study, and their parents rarely had to urge them.

Le Xuan Duong - Xuan Manh's older brother added: "The Road to Olympia is my grandparents' favorite show. They once wished that one of their two grandsons would reach this playground. I also once wished to reach this playground but could not do so. Now my younger brother has fulfilled his dream and the dream of my grandparents."

Le Xuan Duong is a former student of Lam Son High School for the Gifted, Thanh Hoa, and is currently a senior student at the University of Technology, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

Mr. Duong Van Hanh, a Math teacher and homeroom teacher at Xuan Manh, assessed his student's advantage as his desire to learn. Manh is studying for the Math team, but the teacher "always feels that Manh can major in any subject" because he studies well, has a good memory and knowledge base, and a serious attitude towards learning. Manh is also active in school activities, enthusiastic with friends, and balances well between studying and entertainment, so he is not a "bookworm".
