Reuters quoted the announcement of the Syrian interim government saying that schools will reopen today (December 15), while emphasizing that all social activities have returned to normal before the political change.
The announcement by Syria's interim government came just a week after rebels entered the capital Damascus to overthrow the government of former President Bashar al-Assad.

The current head of the Syrian interim government is Ahmad al-Sharaa, leader of the HTS opposition. The current Syrian government faces a huge challenge in rebuilding Syria after 13 years of civil war that has killed hundreds of thousands of people. Cities are left in ruins by bombs, the economy is devastated by international sanctions and millions of refugees still live in refugee camps in countries that share borders with Syria.
New government officials said most schools across Syria were open on Sunday, the first day of the work week in most Arab countries. However, some parents did not send their children to class because of the unstable security situation.
According to Nasser - a teacher at Jawdat al-Hashemi high school in Damascus, most of the equipment at schools is still complete and students can return to school today.
As Syria begins its reconstruction efforts, its neighbors and the West are still examining the new government's stance on establishing diplomatic relations.
UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen said he hopes Western sanctions will soon end when a new government emerges, and this will be the basis for Damascus to recover economically.
On the same day, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Washington had direct contact with the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) force in Syria. This is the force leading the opposition in Syria to overthrow the government of Bashar al-Assad.
The announcement marks the first time Washington has officially acknowledged having had talks with HTS following recent political upheavals in Syria. The group and many other rebel groups in Syria have been designated as terrorist groups by the US for years.
