Shrimp exports reach 4 billion USD
With the theme “Greening farming areas”, VietShrimp 2025 has the participation of over 200 booths of nearly 150 domestic and international enterprises and organizations.
With a modern, professional exhibition space and the appearance of key products related to the Vietnamese and international shrimp industry, VietShrimp promises to bring new things to visitors. In particular, VietShrimp is not only a place to gather advanced technologies but also opens up opportunities for connection between businesses, scientists and shrimp farmers, thereby enhancing the position of the Vietnamese shrimp industry in the international arena.
At VietShrimp 2025, there are 4 workshop sessions, including the following topics: Greening the Vietnamese shrimp industry towards a sustainable shrimp industry; Shrimp farming to reduce emissions in the context of climate change; Developing the shrimp industry supply chain to ensure product quality from shrimp breeds, feed, microorganisms to processed products; Increasing technology, reducing costs in shrimp farming to optimize the production process.
The workshops at VietShrimp 2025 promise to create an “attractive” forum for scientists, businesses, shrimp farmers and state management agencies to share experiences, knowledge and seek breakthrough solutions to green and sustainably develop the Vietnamese shrimp industry.
According to the Vietnam Fisheries Association, in 2024, the country's shrimp output will reach 1.264 million tons, up 5.3% compared to 2023, of which black tiger shrimp output will reach 284,000 tons and white-leg shrimp will reach 980,000 tons. Shrimp exports will reach more than 4 billion USD, a sharp increase compared to 2023.
Over the past year, Vietnamese shrimp has made a strong breakthrough as one of the six export products with a value of over 1 billion USD in the agricultural sector.
According to the report of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in 2024, the brackish water shrimp farming area is estimated to reach 737,000 hectares (of which the black tiger shrimp area is 622,000 hectares and the white-leg shrimp area is 115,000 hectares), with an output of 1,264,300 tons, an increase of 5.3% compared to 2023 (of which the black tiger shrimp output is 283,900 tons, an increase of 3.2% and the white-leg shrimp output is 980,400 tons, an increase of 6%).
It is expected that by 2025, the brackish water shrimp farming area will reach 750,000 hectares, an increase of 1.8% compared to 2024, and the output will reach 1,290,000 tons, an increase of 2% compared to the previous year.
To increase competitiveness and achieve growth targets in 2025, the shrimp farming sector needs to prioritize focusing on quality, environmental protection, health and product value. In the context that our country's agricultural sector is making efforts to implement many solutions to realize the goal of net zero emissions by 2050, many seafood enterprises have proactively invested in research and application of 4.0 technology to transform production methods to a greener direction, not only reducing greenhouse gas emissions but also protecting the environment.
This result was achieved thanks to the widespread application of science and technology and high-tech models in shrimp farming. However, according to Mr. Nguyen Viet Thang, Chairman of the Vietnam Fisheries Association, the proliferation of these farming models has put pressure on the shrimp's living environment, causing the quality of farming areas to gradually decline.
Therefore, solutions to develop shrimp farming effectively and sustainably are always being sought, especially when the requirements of the world market are becoming more and more stringent, requiring higher environmental friendliness.
“Green production in shrimp farming is the topic that the aquaculture industry is focusing on the most at the moment. This is also consistent with the Party's development policy, the Government's commitment as well as the actions of the agricultural and environmental sectors in the direction of green economic development,” said Mr. Thang.

Solving challenges in the aquaculture industry
Evaluating the workshop, Mr. Tran Dinh Luan, Director of the Department of Fisheries and Fisheries Control (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) said that VietShrimp, through its many successful events, will be a forum for businesses to introduce products, transfer new technologies to the shrimp industry, enhance trade promotion, discuss technological solutions, technical processes, policies, management, and production organization to ensure responsible shrimp farming, contributing to promoting the effective and sustainable development of Vietnam's shrimp farming industry.
According to Dr. Nguyen Duy Hoa, Global Technical Director of Empyreal-Motiv, Cargill Group, VietShrimp is always an attractive forum for shrimp farmers, creating an effective connection point between shrimp farmers and businesses in many fields. This is a place to exchange, share experiences, learn and find new solutions, products and technologies.
Hot issues such as rising production costs, falling shrimp prices, environmental pollution, increasingly serious diseases and the impact of feed quality in the context of price reduction pressure will be the focus of discussion by speakers, aiming to find better solutions for the Vietnamese shrimp industry.
