The market for yellow apricot flowers in Binh Dinh is quiet near Tet.
Binh Dinh is one of the provinces with the largest apricot growing industry in the country.
Binh Dinh's yellow apricot has its own unique characteristics, so it is known by many customers everywhere.
An Nhon Town (Binh Dinh) is considered the capital of yellow apricot in Binh Dinh and the whole Central region. There are thousands of households growing apricot with more than 2 million apricot pots on an area of 145 hectares.
In previous years, An Nhon yellow apricot's revenue always reached over 100 billion VND/year.
Before the Lunar New Year 2023, many Binh Dinh apricot growers were disappointed because the flowers did not bloom on time, but the quantity of apricot consumed and the price were stable, which somewhat relieved the burden on traders.
But this year, even though it is already the 25th of December, according to records, the capital of yellow apricot flowers in Binh Dinh has decreased purchasing power and is quiet, business has become sluggish.

Mr. Nguyen Van An (45 years old, a mai grower in Nhon An commune, An Nhon town) shared that his family has thousands of mai pots but only dares to bring 1/3 of them out to sell.
Mr. An explained: “Last year there was a loss but it was not significant. This year I invested hundreds of millions in apricot trees, but when I brought some to the market for trial sale, I realized that the purchasing power was lower than last year. Partly because I was also affected by the early blooming of apricot flowers, up to today I have only sold more than 10 pots.”
At the spring apricot market in An Nhon, there were only a few customers walking around looking at the apricot blossoms, asking prices, then turning away.
According to Mr. Tran The Hoa, a mai grower in Nhon An commune, An Nhon town, up to now, the amount of mai consumed is only about 10%.
"Last year, the lowest price was 1.5 - 2 million VND/5-year-old apricot tree, but this year, apricot growers are selling it for 700,000 - 800,000 VND/tree, hoping to get back the investment, but not many people buy it," artisan Hoa shared.
Farmers who grow apricots all year round only look forward to the days before Tet, but according to records, the apricot pots in gardens in An Nhon town are still intact. Apricot growers only display a small part of them on the street for sale. Because they are afraid of having to pay for the land rental, environmental sanitation fees and the effort of setting up tents to sleep and watch the apricots at night.
To promote yellow apricot for Tet, previously, at the long-standing traditional apricot village of Trung Dinh (Nhon An commune, An Nhon town), the An Nhon Artistic Yellow Apricot Exhibition took place in combination with the 2024 Artistic Yellow Apricot Shaping Skills Competition.
With 5,300 apricot trees on display, including 300 works of yellow apricot of all kinds: large apricot trees taller than 2m, traditional apricot trees, mini apricot trees, bonsai apricot trees...

But until the Lunar New Year, Binh Dinh apricot growers still have to face a quiet and stagnant market.
