TPO - The hard median strip (grass bed, with trees) between the two motorbike lanes on Vo Van Kiet Street (in the direction from Tan Kien intersection, Binh Chanh district to Saigon River tunnel, District 1) is being dismantled to widen the road surface to about 7m.
In mid-June, a part of the motorbike lane on Vo Van Kiet Street (section through District 6, Ho Chi Minh City) was fenced off for repair and upgrading to expand the road surface.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Traffic Management Center, Vo Van Kiet Street (through District 6) has a narrow motorbike lane, while the traffic density is high, leading to frequent congestion.
Therefore, the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Traffic Management and Operation Center (investor) is repairing and renovating the two-wheeled lane on Vo Van Kiet Street (from km4+900 to km12+900), on the right side of the route, in the direction from Tan Kien intersection to the Saigon River tunnel with a cost of about 13.1 billion VND.
Construction site on Vo Van Kiet Street (section passing through District 1, District 5, District 6 and District 8).
The two-wheeled lane on Vo Van Kiet Street (from Tan Kien intersection to Saigon River Tunnel) consists of two sections of road 3 - 3.5m wide and 2 - 2.5m wide, separated by a hard median strip (grass beds, trees). Meanwhile, the traffic volume on the road tends to increase, especially on the car lane, there is often congestion during rush hour.
Therefore, according to the investor, the removal of the hard median strip between the two two-wheeled vehicle lanes is to synchronize the cross-section of the lanes on the entire route, and at the same time adjust the width of the car lanes.
According to the reporter's records, construction is currently taking place on Vo Van Kiet Street (section through District 6).
The Ho Chi Minh City Urban Traffic Management and Operation Center said that the units will relocate (uproot, replant) 48 trees (tamarind, ironwood) and cut down 188 old, poorly growing trees (camphor, royal poinciana) affected by the project.
Part of the hard median strip on the two-wheeled vehicle lane on Vo Van Kiet Street (through District 6) has been dismantled and the road surface is being reconstructed.
Estimated construction time is within 3 months from June 15 to September 15.
Construction work is taking place day and night to speed up progress.
Regarding traffic diversion, vehicles will move into the remaining lane for two-wheeled vehicles.
Vo Van Kiet Street is over 13 km long and is part of the East-West Highway. This is one of the most beautiful boulevards in Ho Chi Minh City, connecting Ho Chi Minh City with the localities of the Southern Key Economic Zone. After more than 15 years of operation, traffic volume on this route has increased.
After the expansion is completed, the two-wheeled lane will be adjusted to an average width of 7m across the entire route, thereby contributing to reducing traffic congestion and overload.
