A male deer in Son Tien commune, Huong Son mountainous district, Ha Tinh province has yielded a pair of antlers weighing 4.12 kg, an impressive number.

The pair of giant deer antlers has attracted the attention of the community and brought great joy to the family of Ms. Nguyen Thi My (61 years old, residing in Thien Nhan village).

This is the first time in many years of raising animals that Ms. Nguyen Thi My's family has harvested antlers of such large weight, bringing high economic value of up to tens of millions of dong.

This deer weighs about 50-60kg, has been raised by her family for many years and has been harvested for antlers 7-8 times.

In previous harvests, each pair of antlers only weighed from 2 to more than 3kg. However, in the recent harvest, the pair of antlers weighed 4.12kg, which surprised Ms. My's family.

Ms. Nguyen Thi My said: "Taking care of this deer is nothing special compared to other deer. The family only feeds it regular foods.

However, this is the first time we have harvested antlers of such large weight, we are really surprised and happy."

Currently, her family raises a total of 7 deer, and harvesting large pairs of antlers is not a rare phenomenon in Huong Son district.

Huong Son district has long been known as the "capital" of deer farming in the country, with thousands of households participating in deer farming.

Normally, each pair of deer antlers harvested here weighs from 0.7 to 1.5 kg. The fact that a deer can produce a pair of antlers weighing 4.12 kg is something special, causing many local and foreign people to flock to witness and take souvenir photos.

Speaking to Dan Viet reporter, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Hien - Secretary of the Party Committee of Son Tien commune, Huong Son district, Ha Tinh province said: "Currently, the commune has 239 households raising a total herd of about 1,656 deer. Raising deer for antlers and selling breeding animals has become the main economic occupation of the people here, helping them have a stable income.

Local authorities are also encouraging people to develop barns and increase the scale of deer farming, thereby increasing product value and promoting a sustainable economy."

"The success of Ms. Nguyen Thi My's family has become a great source of encouragement for many other households raising deer for antlers in Son Tien commune and Huong Son district. At the same time, it creates a premise for deer farming to develop strongly and sustainably in the future," Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Hien - Secretary of the Party Committee of Son Tien commune, shared.
