The program "Donate bicycles - Connect the border" launched by the Dormitory Management Center of Ho Chi Minh City National University on February 25 received 140 bicycles donated by staff and students.
Among them are unused bicycles, left in garages, and bicycle collection points at dormitories that are used for repair.
In addition, the dormitory management staff also spend time after work to clean and replace parts for damaged vehicles.
Mr. Tran Huu Lam (AF cluster manager) shared: "I have two bicycles, one extra so I give it to the children. When I saw the campaign, I supported it, and I also worked with my brothers to repair old, broken bicycles."
Mr. Doan Van Hoan (maintenance staff) confided: "The management has prepared the repair tools. I am a technician, although I am not a repair specialist, but I can help. We look at the damaged vehicles, repair the parts that can be repaired, and replace the parts that cannot. I want to contribute to sending my heart to you in remote areas."
Ms. Nguyen Thi Trong - union chairwoman of the Dormitory Management Center of Ho Chi Minh City National University - said that the cost of purchasing repair parts was paid by the dormitory center.
"The repair team is made up of all professionals, who work professionally and then spend time repairing and washing the bikes near the end of the day. Then, we ask the guys who are experts in bicycles to check them before we send them off to be donated.
We want to spread responsibility to the community to students, enhance their spirit of mutual love. The things that we cannot use but others can use and what we give away, bring value to others" - Ms. Trong said.
The program is expected to last until March 5, and the donated vehicles will be given to the children by the dormitory management board on March 8 in Kon Tum province.
