Cam Lo speeds up to the finish line as a model new rural district

Determining that building a new rural area has a starting point but no ending point, after reaching the new rural area goal in 2019, Cam Lo district issued Resolution No. 02-NQ/HU orienting Cam Lo to become a model new rural area district in the direction of high value-added agriculture and a green-clean-beautiful environmental landscape, period 2021-2025. With the drastic participation of the entire political system and the people, up to now, Cam Lo district has basically met the criteria of an advanced new rural area district, striving to meet the standards of a model new rural area district by the end of 2024.

Implementing the motto of relying on the people's strength to take care of people's lives, relying on the strength of the masses to build new rural areas, advanced rural areas, and models, Cam Lo district has focused on promoting the emulation movement "Quang Tri joins hands to build new rural areas", the campaign "All people unite to build new rural areas, civilized urban areas" by working from the fields to the house, from the house to the residential area, effectively mobilizing investment from all resources to ensure substance and quality. As of the end of November 2023, Cam Lo district had 131/133 commune criteria meeting new rural standards, reaching 98.5%: 127/133 commune criteria meeting advanced new rural standards, reaching 95.5%.

In 2022, Cam Lo district has 4 communes, Cam Thanh, Cam Chinh, Cam Nghia, Cam Hieu, recognized as communes meeting advanced NTM standards. In 2023, the locality is completing the dossier to consider recognizing 2 communes, Cam Thuy and Thanh An, to meet advanced NTM standards.

In 2024, the district will prioritize investment resources for Cam Tuyen commune, the last commune to meet the standards of an advanced NTM commune. Regarding the construction of a model NTM commune, up to now, Cam Lo district has met 8/12 criteria, reaching 66.7%.

The orientation of Cam Lo district is to build Cam Chinh commune to meet the model NTM standards in the direction of a smart commune associated with community tourism development; to build Cam Thanh commune to meet the model NTM standards in the direction of improving the quality of comprehensive education; to build Cam Nghia commune to meet the model NTM standards in the direction of improving the quality of environmental landscape; to build Cam Hieu commune to meet the model NTM standards in the direction of strongly developing industry, trade and services.

The district currently has 37/80 villages and neighborhoods meeting level 1 model standards or higher, reaching 45.7%; it is expected that by the end of 2024, there will be 6 more villages meeting level 1 standards, reaching 53.1%. Regarding the criteria for advanced NTM districts, Cam Lo has so far met 6/9 criteria; the remaining 3/9 criteria are awaiting approval.

The characteristics of building a model new rural area in Cam Lo district in the period of 2021-2025 are determined to be in the direction of high value-added agriculture and a green-clean-beautiful environmental landscape. To achieve that goal, in recent times, the People's Committee of Cam Lo district has focused on directing the implementation and piloting of a number of key crop and livestock production models for evaluation, in order to draw out the advantages and disadvantages and supplement solutions and measures, perfect the production process, promptly recommend farmers to expand or reduce the scale of production, improve the efficiency of resource use and economic efficiency. The One Commune One Product program in Cam Lo district currently has 30 products recognized as 3- and 4-star quality OCOP products, accounting for 30% of the total OCOP products of the province.

In particular, to realize the goal of building Cam Lo district into a medicinal plant center of Quang Tri province, according to the plan, by 2025 Cam Lo district will build a specialized medicinal plant growing area of 500 hectares, including: 100 hectares of vằng tea; 200 hectares of an xoa tree; 50 hectares of ca gai leo; 100 hectares of cajeput five-ribbed and 50 hectares of other medicinal plants.

In the immediate future, Cam Lo has built a specialized medicinal plant growing area of over 200 hectares as raw materials for factories, production facilities, and processing of medicinal products in the area, contributing to improving economic efficiency for the people. Up to now, the average income per capita of Cam Lo district has reached 63 million VND/person/year, of which the rural area has reached 56 million VND/person/year.

The poverty rate in the district has decreased to 3.1%. In the rural beautification and new rural construction movement, thanks to good propaganda work to create consensus and unity from the district to the grassroots and in the community; in 2023, the people donated more than 12,350 ^m2 of land to expand rural roads and sidewalks; contributed more than 1.6 billion VND to match the projects and more than 2.1 billion VND including working days and converted goods; planted more than 39.6 km of new flowers and ornamental plants to serve rural beautification and 3.4 km of rural lighting.

Up to now, the whole district has planted 98 km of flower and ornamental tree roads; built 273 km of "Lighting up the countryside roads" power system, creating a highlight for building bright - green - clean - beautiful, peaceful and livable villages.

Promoting the achievements in building new rural areas, in the coming time, Cam Lo district will continue to build a model new rural district with comprehensive and sustainable development associated with urbanization, synchronous and connected socio-economic infrastructure; in which, the agricultural economy is gradually modernized and has high added value. Cultural and historical values are preserved and promoted to become the driving force for socio-economic development. The material and spiritual life of the people is improved, associated with building a bright, green, clean and beautiful rural environment.
