Passion for folk music

Graduated from Da Nang College of Arts in 2019, but since 2018 Ly Anh Nguyen has been in the spotlight. Possessing a sweet, deep voice, each song she performs is full of emotion, it seems like her heart has been in tune with each note.

In 2020, Ly Anh Nguyen released her debut album “Where Two Rivers Flow Through” which started her artistic style with folk music influences. The album’s theme is the singer’s love for her hometown Dai Loc, where she was born and raised.

Singer Ly Anh Nguyen shared that choosing the folk music genre is also her journey to find cultural identity, contributing to bringing the image of Quang Nam closer to the public, connecting generations together. Over the years, she has spent a lot of time researching, learning and practicing folk songs of Quang Nam.

She realized that folk songs cannot be confined to old melodies forever, but must always be inherited and renewed in a modern way, which is also the way to prevent traditional music from being lost. In her products, Ly Anh Nguyen has subtly brought familiar folk melodies into new, youthful arrangements.

In early 2024, Ly Anh Nguyen embarked on his second music project. After nearly a year of hard work, the album “Quang Nam Mother” was completed with 9 songs imbued with local cultural elements. Thereby, continuing to affirm Ly Anh Nguyen’s talent and artistic mark on the singing path.

According to Ly Anh Nguyen, the album “Quang Nam Mother” is not simply a musical product but also an artistic work containing personal feelings for her homeland Quang Nam. This is also her deep gratitude to the great, heroic mothers.

Although each song in the album has its own color, they all share the same emotional source of passionate love for the homeland. If “Thuong em chin doi muoi cho” is touching with its gentle, pure melody, “Hon que Dien Ban” has a strong, emotional sound.

In particular, the song “Quang Nam Mother”, which is also the album’s theme, evokes the image of a hard-working mother who sacrifices her whole life for her homeland and country. The simple, familiar but meaningful lyrics have touched the hearts of listeners with sacred emotions.

Listening to Ly Anh Nguyen sing about Quang Nam, I can feel her sublime emotions blending into each word. “I want each song I perform to be different, it must have a strong Quang Nam character, must convey all the Quang Nam character in it” - singer Ly Anh Nguyen said.

These days, singer Ly Anh Nguyen is busy preparing for the release of the album “Quang Nam Mother”. Ly Anh Nguyen revealed that the interesting thing about the album “Quang Nam Mother” is not only about enjoying good, emotional songs, but also opening up a large space to introduce to viewers local scenic spots associated with unique customs and practices...

“Through music, I hope to contribute to promoting the image of my homeland to the public. There, listeners not only enjoy music but also experience and learn about the culture, traditions of the land and indigenous values,” said singer Ly Anh Nguyen.

The album “Quang Nam Mother” is not simply a musical product but also contributes to spreading the cultural values of Quang Nam. Through melodies and lyrics, Ly Anh Nguyen has brought his homeland closer to listeners, making music a bridge to introduce the beauty of Quang Nam to the public.

Choosing a musical path in the folk style is considered a commitment of a young singer born in 1998 like Ly Anh Nguyen. But this is the right decision when looking back at her artistic journey marked by many titles and awards such as the gold medal of the Da Nang City singing contest; entering the top 16 of Sao Mai 2019 and the award for the most favorite contestant in the Central - Central Highlands region.

In particular, with the title “Quang Nam Voice”, Ly Anh Nguyen has become a beloved singer in many cultural and artistic programs and is a familiar face to audiences who love folk music. “Since grade 9, I have decided to follow the path of my homeland music, and now, after more than 7 years of singing, I have never thought that I chose the wrong path” - singer Ly Anh Nguyen confided.
