Thousands of people hunt for 'heavenly gifts' at the foot of Tri An hydroelectric dam

TPO - As usual, every time Tri An Hydropower Plant stops releasing water through the spillway, many people flock to catch fish from the Dong Nai River.

From 2:00 p.m. on September 30, Tri An Hydropower Reservoir stopped discharging water through the spillway, only maintaining the discharge of water through the power turbine with a flow rate of 800 - 850 m3/s.

As usual, when Tri An Hydropower Plant stops spilling water, thousands of local people and people from many other places such as Binh Duong, Ho Chi Minh City,... gather at the foot of the hydropower dam to watch or directly catch fish.

Mr. Vo Tan Nhan, Director of Tri An Hydropower Company, said that the foot of Tri An Hydropower Dam is characterized by long rapids. When the hydropower plant releases floodwaters, fish from the downstream Dong Nai River go upstream to the foot of the dam and gather in a large area of water. When the plant closes the sluice gate and the water recedes, a large number of fish are trapped in the water below the foot of the dam.

Previously, on September 23, Tri An Hydropower Plant released 1 spillway gate, and on September 25, it increased to 3 gates with the water flow through the spillway being 640 m3/s, the water flow through the turbine generating electricity from 800 - 850 m3/s. The total water flow discharged downstream is from 1,440 - 1,490 m3/s. This is the highest spillway discharge level since the beginning of the year.
