Brazil Bello's scissor-kick volley helped Venezuela hold host Brazil to a 1-1 draw in the third round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in South America.
* Goals: Gabirel Magalhaes 50' - Eduard Bello 85'
Venezuela's equalizer at the Pantanal stadium on the morning of October 13 came from a simple attack on the right wing. After a cross into the penalty area, Bello leaned in and volleyed a scissor kick to tie the game 1-1. The entire Brazilian defense stood still as they watched the ball hit the net.

Before Bello's surprise equalizer, Brazil dominated. The five-time world champions controlled 65% of the ball and had nine shots, including five on target. However, Neymar and his teammates missed most of their chances. In the 3rd and 13th minutes, the Al Hilal striker repeatedly shot from distance, but could not beat goalkeeper Rafael Romo.
In the 23rd minute, Danilo missed the best chance of the first half. The Juventus defender received the ball in an open area, but crossed it to an opponent instead of passing it to a teammate in a better position.
Venezuela also organized a number of attacks, often starting from set pieces, or crossing to the sidelines and into the penalty area. However, in the first half, the Brazilian defense remained calm and successfully neutralized them.
In the 50th minute, Brazil opened the scoring. After a corner kick from Neymar, defender Gabriel Magalhaes headed the ball into the Venezuelan net. The Arsenal player scored his first goal for the national team, after three appearances.

In the following minutes, Brazil still had a big advantage. However, the attacking quartet of Neymar, Vinicius, Rodrygo, Richarlison did not play as effectively as expected. In the 59th minute, Richarlison had to leave the field to make way for Gabriel Jesus. In the 72nd minute, Vinicius shot diagonally into the Venezuelan net, but it was disallowed due to Neymar's offside.
Towards the end of the match, Venezuela suddenly attacked more. Meanwhile, the withdrawal of Casemiro and Bruno Guimaraes in the 79th minute weakened Brazil's midfield. In the 85th minute, the home team had to pay the price for Bello's equalizer.
The referee added nine minutes of injury time, but Brazil failed to claim all three points. The 1-1 draw with Venezuela left Brazil in second place in the South American qualifying group, with seven points from three games. Argentina, meanwhile, are top of the group with nine points. In their previous match, Messi and his teammates beat Paraguay 1-0.
Venezuela jumped from seventh to sixth, with three points. The 2026 World Cup South American qualifying round consists of 10 teams, with the top six advancing to the finals. The seventh-placed team must play a play-off against a representative from another continent. Venezuela is the only South American team to have never qualified for the World Cup finals.
On October 17, Brazil will visit Uruguay. Meanwhile, Argentina will visit Peru, while Venezuela will host Chile at home.
