The Japan Film Festival in Vietnam is an annual event organized by the Japan Foundation, giving audiences the opportunity to enjoy quality films from the land of the rising sun.

Speaking in Vietnamese at the opening ceremony, Mr. Furudate Seiki expressed his joy at the warm reception of Vietnamese audiences for cinema in particular and Japanese culture in general.
"This year's festival brings us Godzilla Minus One – the Japanese blockbuster of the past year, along with the first film about this legendary monster, released in 1954. Audiences not only have the opportunity to witness the remarkable development of Japanese film technology but also clearly feel the change in filmmaking perspectives of the two periods. The works about Godzilla have deeply reflected the social context and identity of the Japanese people at an important stage. Hopefully, through this, Vietnamese audiences will understand more about Japanese culture, history and people" - Mr. Furudate Seiki expressed.

The list of films at the 2024 Japan Film Festival in Vietnam has received great attention. Not only two films about Godzilla, the Festival also brings Evil Does Not Exist (2024) - highly acclaimed art film directed by Hamaguchi Ryusuke and especially Akira (1984) - animated works ranked among the classics of global popular culture.
According to information from the organizers, the number of tickets Akira The film sold so well that the organizers had to move a screening to a larger theater to accommodate the large audience.
In response to the enthusiastic reception of Vietnamese audiences for this year's films, Mr. Yoshioka Norihiko - Director of the Japan Foundation for International Exchange - said: "This is a positive signal. In terms of film distribution companies, it is often assumed that the Vietnamese film market only favors popular animation brands such as Doraemon , Conan good One Piece . The reception of artistic films at this year's Film Festival will further motivate distributors to be more bold in diversifying the works they bring to Vietnamese audiences."

Responding to Tien Phong newspaper reporters about the message of this year's film festival, Mr. Yoshioka Norihiko shared: "Diversity is the message that this year's film festival wants to convey. Life is colorful: society has good people and bad people, but I believe that inside each person, whether good or bad, there are both good and bad characteristics. Life is truly diverse, and the miracle of cinema is to show us that diversity."
