Reporting at the conference, the leader of the Department of Rescue and Relief said that the 7.7 magnitude earthquake that occurred on March 28 in central Myanmar caused at least 10 aftershocks, ranging in magnitude from 2.8 to 7.5. The consequences left thousands of people dead and injured.
Faced with the emergency situation in Myanmar, General Phan Van Giang, Minister of National Defense, directed the General Staff to organize forces to participate in earthquake relief in Myanmar. Speaking at the Conference, Senior Lieutenant General Huynh Chien Thang, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, requested the Department of Search and Rescue, the Department of Foreign Affairs, the Engineering Corps, the General Department of Logistics and Engineering and relevant units to coordinate closely and quickly implement procedures so that the task force can depart on March 30.
Agencies and units should carefully prepare means and technical equipment, prioritizing dual-purpose, easy-to-move, portable means; ensure good logistics, supplies, goods, aid, etc.
In particular, the task force focuses on resolving relationships and coordinating with international forces, authorities and local people; promoting the good qualities of the Vietnam People's Army, leaving a good impression in the hearts of international friends and the people of Myanmar.
Previously, in February 2023, Vietnam sent a working group of 76 soldiers to rescue, search for victims and provide humanitarian assistance after a 7.8-magnitude earthquake in southeastern Türkiye.
Here, Vietnamese officers and soldiers coordinated with local authorities and international rescue forces to search for victims. The team surveyed and searched many locations, discovered many victims and handed them over to Turkish rescue forces to help them get out of the rubble. The team also supported some local families to recover buried property. After completing the mission, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan and local leaders directly met, expressed their thanks and appreciated the efforts and sense of responsibility of the rescue force of the Vietnam People's Army. |
