Binh Thuan: Spontaneous eco-tourism areas flourish

Báo Sài Gòn Giải phóngBáo Sài Gòn Giải phóng11/07/2024

In recent times, grasping the needs of entertainment and experiences of tourists, in many places in Binh Thuan province, there has been a situation where people compete to build unlicensed eco-tourism areas on agricultural land. Many tourist spots have also brazenly encroached on rivers, streams, lakes, etc. and opened food, accommodation, and water sports services, posing potential safety risks.

Tien Dat spontaneous eco-tourism area (Ham Thuan Bac district, Binh Thuan province) built many illegal structures.

About 20km from Phan Thiet City (Binh Thuan Province), Tien Dat eco-garden area (Ham Tri Commune, Ham Thuan Bac District) has been repeatedly "whistled" by local authorities for blatantly building many homestays and constructions that seriously encroach on the Cai River, preventing flood drainage. However, this tourist spot is currently operating again, and the owner has even opened a series of adventure entertainment services to attract visitors.

Present at this tourist spot, the reporter witnessed the eco-tourism area brazenly setting up dining tables in the middle of the river for tourists to eat and drink; not only that, activities such as SUP rowing, river bathing, etc. were opened to serve visitors without any license.

Here, tourists who want to stay overnight, in addition to homestay, the owner of the facility also sets up tents right on the riverbank to meet the demand. "It is the rainy season so the water on Cai River flows rapidly, but the owner of the eco-tourism area still allows visitors to freely bathe in the river, row boats, and eat and drink on the water, which is too dangerous," said Mr. Le Thai Tinh (residing in Ham Thuan Bac district).

Down in Tanh Linh district (Binh Thuan province), a series of similar spontaneous eco-tourism spots have appeared for a long time but the local authorities have not yet handled them. Among them, a tourist spot called Dami Farm (La Ngau commune, Tanh Linh district) has carelessly built many unlicensed structures to welcome visitors. The owner of the facility installed a floating buoy system right on the surface of Da Mi lake for visitors to participate in water games.

Not only that, sup rowing and ziplining services across the lake, although not licensed, are also operating vigorously here.

Also in Tanh Linh district, La Ngau Rock Stream eco-tourism site built homestays, restaurants, etc. without permission on thousands of square meters of agricultural land for tourism business.

It is worth mentioning that the owner of this facility takes advantage of La Ngau stream to develop water games such as rowing, building floating buoys, etc. Local people said that La Ngau stream floods very quickly and suddenly, so doing business services under the stream poses a high risk of insecurity, especially during the rainy and stormy season. Recently, at spontaneous tourist spots in Tanh Linh district, there have been 2 drowning incidents that resulted in 2 deaths.

Chairman of La Ngau Commune People's Committee Dang Cong Khanh admitted that, although authorities at all levels have strengthened management, there are still cases of people inside and outside the locality going to spontaneous entertainment spots along rivers and streams to camp, eat, and have fun.

“In order to develop community tourism in an orderly manner and contribute to the development of the local economy, the commune has sent many recommendations to relevant authorities to issue appropriate management mechanisms. However, to date, due to the lack of guiding documents, local tourism development is still developing spontaneously, with many potential risks,” said Mr. Dang Cong Khanh.
