Binh Dinh awakens La Vuong tourism potential

La Vuong Plateau is located in the mountainous area of ​​Hoai Son Commune, Hoai Nhon Town, Binh Dinh Province, 700m above sea level, with flat terrain interspersed with hills and slopes. To reach the top of the mountain, one must go through winding mountain roads, through forests of trees, with steep slopes above and precarious cliffs below.

In the past, if you wanted to go to La Vuong, you had to choose the right time, make a specific plan, prepare the means of transport, necessary belongings and contact local people who know the way to ensure a safe trip. Currently, a concrete road has been built, extending to the top, and the national electricity grid is also present in this area.

Land of four seasons

The weather in the South Central region is quite hot, but the temperature in La Vuong is clearly different from the lower mountain. Many people commented that here you can experience almost four seasons in one day. In the morning, the climate is cool, the sky is hazy in fog and clouds; at noon, you can watch the blue sky next to the majestic primeval forest canopy; in the afternoon, you can watch the sunset with cool weather and quite cold at night. "La Vuong Plateau has a wonderful climate and scenery, suitable for those who love to explore nature. A few years ago, the road to La Vuong was very dangerous because you had to go through the mountains, but now there is a new road, making it convenient to travel. Hopefully in the future, there will be more services here to better serve tourists", said Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh, a resident of Hoai Huong ward, Hoai Nhon town.

With its special soil and climate, La Vuong was once a land where the French colonialists planned to build a resort for colonial officials, like Tam Dao, Sa Pa, Ba Na..., but then gave up after only surveying. According to historical records, in 1901, the colonial government granted the right to exploit this land of about 500 hectares in the form of a concession to a plantation owner named Alavoine. This colonial owner wanted to turn La Vuong into a large plantation like Moc Chau farm (Son La province) in the north later, but at that time this place was still wild with many wild animals. Perhaps at that time the colonial government did not dare to risk investing in a place with too many risks, especially when it often had to face fierce struggles of local people...

Chairman of the People's Committee of Hoai Nhon town Le Dang Tuan said that La Vuong plateau is located at a high altitude above sea level. Four months ago, this land was still very wild, without electricity, the road was not completed, there were no tourism facilities... Visitors to La Vuong can experience four seasons: spring, summer, autumn, winter in one day. Dong Duong intersection, Truong Luy, Doi Thong airport, Bang Lac beach, Cau Lay lake, Chua mountain, Co Tien stream, Heaven's gate, Ba Tang waterfall... are all suitable destinations for developing types of forest ecotourism, suitable for terrain sports.

During the struggles to defend the country, especially during the war against the US, to save the country, Hoai Nhon was one of the fiercest battlefields from 1964 to 1972, but the land and people here always fought steadfastly against foreign invaders. At that time, La Vuong was the field airport of the US 1st Airborne Division, the 173rd Brigade and the Saigon army, so all activities were strictly controlled. However, the appearance of a route from An Lao district to Hoai Son named "Hoa Binh road" provided food, weapons and ammunition for the 3rd Sao Vang Division and the people and army of Hoai Nhon to fight the enemy. Unfortunately, the devastation of the war was so fierce that the land became barren, and a large plateau became a desolate ruin without a single person. After liberation, there was a time when a cattle farm was re-established here. Many planning projects were implemented, but due to the terrain, infrastructure, and difficult transportation, these plans had to be abandoned.

La Vuong Plateau attracts many tourists from all over to visit and travel.

“In the coming time, the People's Committee of Hoai Nhon town will continue to strengthen coordination with provincial departments and branches to submit to the Provincial People's Committee for approval the detailed planning for the development of La Vuong plateau forest ecotourism. This planning work is considered the first bricks laying the foundation, ensuring the legality and orientation of scientific and effective tourism development space. On that basis, we will develop a project for the development of forest ecotourism; prepare well the legal basis, especially land to deploy investment attraction, investment projects, construction of tourist spots, areas and related infrastructure such as: Roads, electricity, water, landscapes... to attract and develop tourism", said comrade Le Dang Tuan.

Awaken your potential

Currently, Binh Dinh province is researching and finding a direction for tourism development in La Vuong plateau according to the design idea that won the First Prize in the Design Ideas Contest for the planning of the La Vuong plateau eco-tourism development area, organized by the Department of Construction of Binh Dinh province. Accordingly, the idea proposes to build an eco-tourism resort complex combining sports and entertainment based on nature and traditional cultural and historical values ​​of La Vuong plateau with the message "La Vuong Glamping - Colorful world on the green plateau". The planned scale of La Vuong plateau tourism complex is expected to be about 500 hectares and aims to build this place into a large-scale tourism complex in the South Central region.

After the planning is approved, the province will attract Glamping eco-resort projects, develop services to experience exploring the nature of Chua Mountain forest, along with recreational sports activities such as paragliding, kite-gliding, folk games, etc. In addition, there will be green lifestyle tourism services (marathon races, mountain biking, resort tourism combined with meditation, yoga, etc.). It is known that the total investment according to the planning is about 700 billion VND, of which the cost of compensation for site clearance is about 80 billion VND.

Mr. Tran Hanh, representative of Phuong Viet Construction Design Consulting Company - the winner of the First Prize of the La Vuong Eco-Tourism Development Planning Design Ideas Contest, said: “This land has many historical values, needs to be protected, restored and created a natural image, taking nature as the main focus in tourism development. Therefore, we have many ideas to build types of tourism services from resorts to exploit the advantages of climate, then sports and physical activities, green entertainment, paragliding, kite-gliding... to attract tourists. We also design special works such as glass bridges to create a tourist destination based on nature. In the near future, La Vuong will be a place to explore and experience with services such as trekking (hiking, through the forest), mountain climbing, exploring the beauty of the mountains and forests. Besides, visitors can learn about the cultural life of local people, enjoy cuisine; explore historical sites such as Don Thu (located in Truong Luy range), Dong Truong… In addition, accommodation and camping services; shopping for agricultural products and local specialties; experiencing sports activities… will be implemented on this plateau.

Comrade Ho Quoc Dung, Secretary of Binh Dinh Provincial Party Committee, said that the idea of ​​designing the planning area for the development of La Vuong grassland eco-tourism was carefully and seriously implemented, in line with the ideas proposed by the provincial leaders. In the coming time, the Standing Committee of Binh Dinh Provincial Party Committee will give opinions and contribute ideas on the tourism development plan in La Vuong, the Provincial People's Committee will approve and create conditions for the province to attract investors. In the coming time, there will be a special tourist destination on this plateau. In addition to sea and island tourism, cultural and historical tourism, and landscape tourism, Binh Dinh will have a tourist area associated with a poetic plateau on the heroic land of Hoai Nhon town.

To promote the exploitation of tourism types combined with local tourism products, the leaders of Binh Dinh Provincial Party Committee requested the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of the province to coordinate with Hoai Nhon town to research and plant tree species suitable for the soil here, creating a cool, green space that is friendly to nature. Departments, branches, Hoai Nhon town and related units continue to complete planning and traffic infrastructure in the plateau to promote tourism activities.

It can be seen that, although it is only the first step of exploration, there is still a lot of work to be done to make La Vuong plateau an attractive destination for tourists, but a fresh perspective has emerged through the gathering of thousands of tourists at the event "La Vuong - Green Plateau Calling". With the convoys of cars following each other during the festival, it is hoped that when the infrastructure is invested in a systematic way along with essential services for tourism development, La Vuong will become an eco-tourism destination that attracts a large number of tourists.
