MSc. Le Thi Xuan Lan, a hydrometeorological forecasting expert, said: During the period from June 23 to 26, there is a possibility of a tropical depression appearing in the East Sea and possibly strengthening into a storm, storm number 2.
Storms may appear in the East Sea early next week
"In particular, this storm formed right in the East Sea, not from the coast of the Philippines and then entered the East Sea. This is the reason I want to issue an early warning so that fishermen know, monitor and prepare to respond," Ms. Lan explained.
The location of the storm is uncertain and needs further monitoring; it is likely to appear off the coast of the central provinces from Binh Dinh to Quang Ngai - Quang Nam. This storm will move along the central region and enter the Gulf of Tonkin, or may make landfall in the northern region or the north central provinces.
If the storm forms as predicted, it will be very dangerous because the northern provinces are in the rainy and flood season, just a few days of heavy rain can lead to landslides, flash floods, etc. Meanwhile, the central region is in the hot season, there may be cooling rain but accompanied by extreme weather phenomena such as strong winds and whirlwinds.
The storm in the East Sea also causes the southwest monsoon to intensify, causing heavy rain. The South Central Coast region, including the area around the Truong Sa archipelago, the area from 11 - 13 degrees north latitude to 110 - 115 degrees east longitude, may experience level 5 - 6 winds, gusts of level 6 - 8, and rough seas.
"Fishermen need to pay special attention and continue to update weather information for sea trips in the coming days," Ms. Lan advised.
