Ancient People Cave - where 3 ancient tombs were discovered in 1966 with skeletons lying curled up

This cave is currently about 4 km from the entrance of Cuc Phuong forest. The cave has an area of about 30 m2, has 3 compartments, is wide and airy, the door faces the southwest. In which, the outermost compartment is wide, bright and airy, so it was chosen by prehistoric people as a place to live. The middle compartment is narrow, dark, damp, and is where bats live. The innermost compartment is dark, damp and has a beautiful stalactite system.

In 1966, the Vietnam Institute of Archaeology, in collaboration with Cuc Phuong National Park and with the help of German experts, excavated this cave.

The results showed that there was a very rich and diverse cultural layer here, including stream snails, mountain snails, animal bones and teeth such as gibbons, monkeys, bears, wild boars, deer, etc. In addition, labor tools such as stone axes, stone knives and nearly 2 m thick ash were also discovered.

In particular, during the excavation process, archaeologists discovered 3 ancient tombs buried in a curled-up, squatting position at a depth of 40 cm to 140 cm with fossilized human skeletons that were still quite intact about 7,500 years ago.

The remains of primitive people were buried around the stone embankment, the bottom was covered with crushed stone, some graves were sprinkled with ochre and most of these graves were placed near the fire. According to the assessment, the tombs in the cave are ancient tomb structures discovered for the first time in the relics of the Hoa Binh culture, it helps us recall the early ideas about primitive beliefs and religions.

Ancient Man Cave is a dry cave with the characteristics of limestone mountains. The air here is very cool and airy, which is also the reason why primitive people chose this cave as their place to live.
