Infectious disease expert notes emerging diseases and recommends prevention

At the conference, Professor Nguyen Van Kinh, Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Medical Association, said that in terms of infectious diseases, cases of polio and measles are increasing again in some countries; there is an alarm about monkeypox and cholera. Cases of monkeypox have been recorded in the community and this is an emerging disease that needs to be monitored, detected early, and quarantined to prevent the spread.

Dr. Kinh also noted the recent appearance of diphtheria in some northern provinces such as Ha Giang and Dien Bien, with 4 deaths recorded. One of the reasons for the appearance of diphtheria after a long period of no record is due to a decrease in vaccination rates and interruption in vaccine supply.

Infectious disease experts warn international travelers about five infectious diseases in 2023: diphtheria in Guinea; dengue fever in Africa, the Americas, Asia, the Western Pacific Islands and the Middle East; fungal infections after surgical device placement in Mexico; and measles and chikungunya in Paraguay.
