Inside the Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station metro train driver training 'oven'

(Dan Tri) - About 50 train drivers are being urgently trained to be able to operate the elevated section of the Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station metro by the middle of this year.

After the Lunar New Year holiday, the Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station train operation team immediately began training. They only have about 4 months left if the project is scheduled to be put into commercial operation in June.

50 train drivers of Hanoi Metro Company were summoned for final operational training under the guidance of Systra Consultants.

After listening to the safety rules, they entered the cockpit to directly operate the train.

At this stage, train drivers are required to fully implement safety procedures as in real operations. The procedure requires the train driver to visually inspect and ensure safety factors before starting the train engine.

Systra's train driver training expert, Benoit Picout, said the train drivers had undergone seven training sessions and this was the last one, lasting 15 days.

Experts say the technology and equipment on the Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station train are very different from the Cat Linh - Ha Dong train. Therefore, even train drivers who have operated the Cat Linh line must be thoroughly trained before switching to this line.

Before putting the train on the route, the train drivers must carefully check the safety functions on the train, including the camera system, door obstacle sensors, anti-drowsiness system... These are new technologies not yet available on Cat Linh - Ha Dong.

Upon hearing the news that the Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station metro line would operate an elevated section this year, train drivers expressed their excitement. Previously, many people were recruited by Hanoi Metro to operate this train line but had to wait for a long time because the project was behind schedule.

Mr. Picout affirmed that each driver can drive alone and does not need an instructor to stand by and guide them. This training session is only to supplement their knowledge of safety and handling situations.

In the coming days, Systra will let train drivers practice handling emergency situations, evacuating passengers... Based on training results and accumulated train operating hours, authorities will issue certificates and train driver's licenses.

The Hanoi Urban Railway Project Management Board said that the elevated section of the Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station metro line has been completed by more than 99%. From the end of April to the end of June, the investor will conduct a trial operation of the entire system. After that, the project will be handed over to Hanoi Metro for commercial operation.
