The underground section of the Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station metro line is 4km long, starting from station S9 at the beginning of Kim Ma Street to station S12 - the beginning of Tran Hung Dao - Le Duan Street. The underground section of this metro line consists of 2 parallel tunnels.

Previously, on July 30, 2024, the Hanoi Urban Railway Management Board started the first tunnel boring machine, and has so far dug 985m of tunnel.

On February 3, the Hanoi Urban Railway Management Board continued to start the construction of the second tunnel boring machine of the Nhon - Hanoi Station metro line. The second tunnel from Station S9, at a depth of 17.8m, the tunnel boring machine construction process will accelerate to the standard speed of about 10m/day.

According to the plan, the total time from the start of drilling with the first machine until completion is 16 months. After finishing drilling at station S12, the excavators will be dismantled at this station, and the auxiliary equipment system will be pulled back and dismantled at station S9.

Mr. Nguyen Ba Son - Deputy Head of Hanoi Urban Railway Management Board said that during the operation of the first machine, the construction unit encountered many difficulties in geological conditions.

However, through this, the contractor has collected sufficient geological data as a basis for aligning the second machine to ensure smoother and more efficient operation.

The first excavator has drilled nearly 1km of the Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station metro tunnel.

According to Mr. Son, after completing the 4km Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station urban railway tunnel, the contractor will install equipment in the tunnel. It is expected that the underground metro line Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station will be completed in 2027.

The Nhon - Hanoi station metro line is over 13km long, including 12 stations. Of which, there are over 12.5km of main line and 0.46km of approach road and depot. The elevated section includes 8 stations from station S1 - S8, about 8.5km long; the underground section includes 4 stations from station S9 - S12, about 4km long.

On November 9, 2024, Hanoi City held a commercial operation ceremony for the elevated section of the route from Nhon to Cau Giay station, 8.5km long.

After 20 years of implementation, Hanoi has only two urban railway lines, Cat Linh - Ha Dong, and the elevated section of Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station, put into operation. If construction continues as planned, it will be very difficult for Hanoi to complete the urban railway network as planned.
