New ferry terminal to Cat Ba officially operates from March 1

On the afternoon of February 26, Mr. Nguyen Duc Tho - Vice Chairman of Hai Phong City People's Committee, inspected the preparation of conditions to put Dong Bai Ferry Terminal into operation from the beginning of March 2024.

During the inspection, a representative of the Hai Phong Department of Transport informed that on February 26, Cat Ba Sun Company Limited (the investor of Dong Bai Ferry Terminal) had coordinated with the Hai Phong Economic Zone Management Board to carry out the project acceptance.

Previously, the investor had basically completed the following items: Construction of rock pouring under the wharf; construction of rain and sun protection for motorcyclists and pedestrians during the process of moving from the waiting room to the ferry; agreement with the wharf operator to have an optimal design with the operating process, ensuring beauty and synchronization with the modern landscape architecture of the new ferry wharf.

For Hai Phong Waterway Traffic Assurance Joint Stock Company (the unit assigned by Hai Phong City to operate and manage Dong Bai Ferry Terminal), the trial run has been completed. At the same time, it has coordinated with the ferry construction unit to rent additional ferries, waiting rooms, operating houses and auxiliary works to serve the operation of the new ferry terminal.

Up to now, the Hai Phong Department of Transport has coordinated with the Hai Phong Economic Zone Management Board to guide and urge Cat Ba Sun Company Limited to prepare conditions for the new ferry terminal to come into operation; organize the installation of traffic signs in the ferry terminal area and the route to the new terminal.

At the same time, organize inspection and review of the capacity to provide public passenger transport services by ferry of Hai Phong Waterway Traffic Assurance Joint Stock Company, assess the technical status and safety level of the unit's existing ferries.

Hai Phong Waterway Traffic Assurance Joint Stock Company has organized a test run at Dong Bai Ferry Terminal to replace Got Ferry Terminal to take passengers to Cat Ba Island.

In order for Dong Bai Ferry Terminal to operate as planned, Mr. Nguyen Duc Tho - Vice Chairman of Hai Phong City People's Committee, requested relevant agencies and units to urgently complete all procedures for handing over shared technical infrastructure works, arranging waiting areas, operating houses and auxiliary works for ferry service providers at Dong Bai Ferry Terminal to ensure conditions and operations in accordance with the law.

According to the plan, starting from 5:00 a.m. on March 1, 2024, the first ferry of Dong Bai Ferry Terminal will officially come into operation to replace Got Ferry Terminal. With modern facilities and higher transport capacity, the operation of the new ferry terminal is expected to overcome the congestion at Got Ferry Terminal, especially during peak season of island tourism, holidays, and weekends. Thereby, creating convenience for people and tourists when coming to Cat Ba Island .
