Forest rangers arrested for colluding with loggers to cut down precious wood in Lam Dong

On November 8, the Investigation Police Agency of Bao Lam District Police (Lam Dong) issued a decision to temporarily detain 4 people for illegal logging.

Those detained include K'Thang (34 years old), K'Thuc (36 years old), Kieu Van Nguyen (48 years old), all residing in Loc Bao commune, Bao Lam district, and Pham Van Chung (41 years old, employee of Loc Bac Forestry One Member Co., Ltd., Bao Lam district).

Pham Van Chung was identified as the person who colluded and connected with the group of illegal loggers to exploit wood.

4 people cut down many precious trees in Lam Dong.

Previously, the Investigation Agency coordinated with the District People's Procuracy and the Forest Protection Department to examine the scene of the illegal logging case that occurred in Sub-area 414 (Loc Bao commune) belonging to the forest area managed and protected by Loc Bac Forestry One Member Co., Ltd.

From the center of Loc Bao commune, it takes more than 2 hours to walk to the scene of the incident.

Through the examination, the authorities recorded that there were 6 forest trees that had been cut down by illegal loggers and had not yet been transported out of the forest. Of these, there were 5 Kien Kien trees (group II) and 1 mixed tree.

For the 5 ancient Kien Kien trees, after cutting them down, the group cut them into pieces and then sawed them into segments. Among the Kien Kien trees that were cut down, there was an ancient tree with a base diameter of more than 1.3m and a height of nearly 30m, estimated to be hundreds of years old.

The remaining trees have a base diameter of 0.6 - 0.8m. According to the authorities' estimates, the valuable trees were destroyed by illegal loggers, causing damage of about 25m3 of wood.

Authorities examine the scene of the felling of many precious trees.

Bao Lam District Police added that about 10 days ago, through field work, Bao Lam District Police detectives discovered a number of suspects of illegal logging.

After the investigation, the professional forces of Bao Lam District Police arrested the four illegal loggers of precious wood mentioned above. It is worth mentioning that in this illegal logging group, there were also forest protection management staff of Loc Bac Forestry Company Limited.
