The Palace Museum (China), located in the Forbidden City, has just launched a special exhibition demonstrating its strong commitment to sustainable development. The exhibition features a series of innovative products made from recycled materials to promote a "zero waste" lifestyle.

With more than 40 unique and eco-friendly products, the exhibition is not just a display but also a strong message about recycling and efficient use of resources.

These products are made from waste left over from the museum’s other handicraft production, such as leftover threads, scrap paper and wood chips. In addition, recycled materials include agricultural waste such as straw, rice husks and tea tree stalks, plastic bottles, or even fallen leaves and branches collected on the museum grounds.

The aim of the exhibition is to promote waste reduction, increased recycling and safe disposal of materials, and to encourage the use of waste materials to create innovative and sustainable products.

The exhibition is part of a "zero waste" initiative that the Palace Museum launched in 2020, focusing on waste separation to reduce the amount of waste that needs to be buried or burned from offices and tourist attractions.

From June 2021 to October 2023, the museum recycled more than 32,000 plastic bottles to create cultural and creative products, equivalent to reducing more than 930 kg of carbon emissions.
