Russian newspaper affirms the value of Vietnam's "bamboo diplomacy"

According to a VNA correspondent in Moscow, the Russian newspaper Pravda published an article on August 30 titled “Hanoi’s bamboo diplomacy”, affirming the value of bamboo diplomacy in helping Vietnam have extensive international relations and gain prestige and trust in the international arena.

The article analyzes that when President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam in Hanoi in 1945, no country in the world recognized this or established diplomatic relations with Vietnam. After 79 years, today Vietnam has diplomatic relations with 193 countries in the world, 7 of which are at the level of Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The Vietnamese National Assembly has working relations with the legislatures of more than 140 countries, Vietnamese public organizations cooperate with 1,200 people's diplomatic organizations, and Vietnam is a member of 70 international organizations.

At the 13th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (January 2021), Vietnam's foreign policy achievements were highly appreciated, as the late General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong affirmed: "Our country has never had such a foundation, potential, position and international prestige as it does today."

In one of his articles, the late General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong explained the concept of “bamboo diplomacy”, according to which, “firm roots” are the principled viewpoint of protecting national interests, independence, autonomy, participating in the integration process, closely following the methodology of Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh Thought; “firm trunks” are the unity of action of all components in foreign policy; “flexible branches” are skillful diplomatic methods and techniques, the ability to adapt to circumstances, taking into account changes in the international and domestic arena.

Late General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong emphasized that in the current difficult and volatile conditions of world politics, “bamboo diplomacy” is necessary to protect the national interests of the socialist Fatherland of Vietnam.

The newspaper wrote that throughout the history of independent Vietnam, the Communist Party of Vietnam considered the foreign front the most important part of the revolutionary struggle, not only for independence and autonomy but also to ensure the progressive development and progress towards a socialist future of the Vietnamese people. Today, the diplomatic sector is given a pioneering role in protecting the interests of the Vietnamese people.

The main documents of the Communist Party of Vietnam consider party diplomacy, state diplomacy and people-to-people diplomacy as the three pillars of foreign policy. As part of party diplomacy, the Communist Party of Vietnam has relations with 253 political parties from 115 countries, not only with communists and workers, but also with ruling parties of many different parties.

The article stated that with the motto of “bamboo diplomacy”, Vietnam is maintaining relations with all countries willing to cooperate with it on the principles of equality and mutually beneficial cooperation; including traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation with Laos, Cambodia and Cuba; 7 countries with comprehensive strategic partnerships and strategic partners and comprehensive partners.

The outstanding feature of Vietnam's approach is taking into account the scale of economic and political cooperation; the ability to use resources of these countries for Vietnam's development.
