Switzerland has taken a leading role in promoting international cooperation on climate change. It calls on the international community, especially rich and high-emission countries, to increase their financial contributions to the global climate fund, to support developing countries in responding to climate change and transitioning to a green economy.
Meanwhile, the UK is expected to announce an ambitious climate target, pledging to cut emissions by 81% from 1990 levels by 2035. This is one of the strongest climate targets set at COP29 and is highly appreciated by the international community.
Climate finance was one of the top issues at the Conference.
NGOs estimate that about $1 trillion a year is needed by 2035 to meet global climate goals. However, developed countries are currently only committing $100 billion a year from public funds.
