An Giang: Launching the Peak Month "For the Poor" in 2023

(People's life) - Mr. Le Van Phuoc, Vice Chairman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee, requested the Party Committee, government, Fatherland Front, and socio-political organizations to continue to propose proactive and creative ways to mobilize more resources; attract people from all walks of life to participate in building the "For the Poor" Fund.

On October 19, at the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of An Giang province, the Mobilization Committee of the Fund "For the Poor" of An Giang province held the Launching Ceremony of the Peak Month "For the Poor" in 2023 and the "Spring Tree" campaign for the Year of the Dragon in 2024.

At the ceremony, Mr. Le Van Phuoc, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, on behalf of the provincial leaders, sincerely thanked the companionship of agencies, organizations, units and individuals inside and outside the province and abroad for the social security program of An Giang province.

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Van Phuoc affirmed that in recent times: The Fatherland Front at all levels in the province has always done a good job of advising the Party Committee, strengthening leadership, direction, closely coordinating with the government and member organizations to mobilize all classes of people and the social community to join hands to help the poor; affirming the profound political, social, and humanistic significance, promoting the tradition of solidarity and mutual love of the Vietnamese people.

In the first 9 months of 2023 alone, the "For the Poor" Fund Mobilization Committee at all levels in the province received over VND 262 billion 824 million in cash and in-kind donations to care for and help the poor, specifically: Building 1,466 new Great Solidarity houses and repairing 133 houses; visiting and giving gifts to nearly 331,000 poor households; providing emergency assistance to nearly 672,000 cases; assisting students with their studies for nearly 14,000 cases; supporting medical examinations and production assistance for a total of over 8,000 cases.

Mr. Nguyen Tiec Hung, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province, said that An Giang is a border province, ethnic minority and often affected by natural disasters, floods, riverbank landslides, so currently the whole province still has more than 14,872 poor households and 24,370 near-poor households in need of joint help, sharing in all aspects to rise up, build a prosperous, happy, better life. In order to demonstrate the spirit of "Mutual love", the rich help the poor, solidarity to help each other in the community.

Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province Nguyen Tiec Hung called on all classes of people, individuals, philanthropists, religious establishments and businesses inside and outside the province to continue to allocate a portion of their welfare and income to support the Fund "For the Poor", contributing with the Party and State to care for the poor.
