"Strange disease" appears on rubber trees

"Strange disease" appears causing rubber trees to dry up and burn.

Present at the rubber garden of Production Team No. 3 (Le Ninh Joint Stock Company) and witnessing the situation of dozens of hectares of rubber trees with green leaves falling off simultaneously, the remaining leaves on the trees gradually withering and hanging on the branches; the young shoots and buds were all burnt, we could not help but feel sad and worried.

Le Ninh Joint Stock Company Director Le Thanh Hung said that the "strange disease" appeared in the company's rubber plantations from the end of March 2025 and began to break out and spread strongly from April 6, 2025. The "strange disease" occurred in rubber plantations that were in the stage of growing new leaves after leaf loss. During the process of growing new leaves, the "strange disease" appeared, causing most of the leaves in the company's rubber plantations to be infected.

Rubber trees shed their green leaves simultaneously.

“Currently, the company’s rubber plantation area is about 1,000 hectares infected with the disease; of which about 80% (about 800 hectares) are severely infected. The severely infected rubber plantations are all in the process of latex exploitation, most concentrated in production teams No. 1, 3, 4, Phu Cuong, Quyet Tien. This is a new disease, the first time it has appeared in the company’s rubber plantation in the past 64 years…”, the Director of Le Ninh Joint Stock Company informed.

Since the appearance of the "strange disease" in rubber plantations, Le Ninh Joint Stock Company has proactively contacted the Vietnam Rubber Group, research institutes, and scientists to learn more about the cause, to seek advice, help, and take preventive measures. However, to date, the cause of the disease and measures to prevent and treat the disease in rubber plantations have not been found.

Le Ninh Joint Stock Company hopes that the authorities will find out the cause of the disease in order to take preventive measures.

“The unit has also sent an official dispatch to the Department of Agriculture and Environment reporting on the situation of the diseased rubber garden; at the same time, requesting inspection and assessment of the situation to have a timely treatment plan, providing further guidance on disease prevention and treatment measures, minimizing damage to the quality and productivity of the garden…”, the Director of Le Ninh Joint Stock Company added.

Chairman of the People's Committee of Le Ninh Farm Town, Pham Minh Dien, said that the most serious cases of rubber trees infected with the "strange disease" occurred in the gardens of Le Ninh Joint Stock Company. In addition, many rubber areas of about 30 local households were also infected. Rubber growers here are worried because the cause has not yet been determined to have a solution. The infected rubber gardens have affected the quality, productivity and lives of local people...

“The local government and people really hope that the authorities will promptly intervene to find out the cause of the “strange disease” in the rubber plantations. Thereby, timely measures can be taken to avoid major losses for the people…”, said the Chairman of the People’s Committee of Le Ninh Farm Town.

In 2024, Le Ninh Joint Stock Company's revenue from rubber trees will reach about 58 billion VND. Currently, the exploitation of rubber latex on more than 1,300 hectares at the unit has been temporarily suspended, affecting the income of 250 workers directly exploiting rubber latex; at the same time, causing difficulties for rubber production and business of Le Ninh Joint Stock Company.
