Asian Football Confederation President Salman Bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa sent a congratulatory letter to the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) after the second leg of the AFF Cup 2024 final. Mr. Al Khalifa emphasized the solidarity and excellent performance of the Vietnamese team throughout the tournament.
The AFC President expressed his belief that this achievement will further motivate Vietnamese football to achieve higher goals in the future. He also affirmed that the AFC will always provide the best support for Vietnamese football.
Previously, at the AFF Cup 2024 awards ceremony, the World Football Federation (FIFA) also sent representatives, Secretary General Mattias Grafstrom and CEO Kevin Lamour to attend.
On the evening of January 5, the Vietnamese team won the AFF Cup for the third time, the first time lifting the trophy on away ground (the previous two times in 2008 and 2018, the second leg of the final was both held at My Dinh Stadium, Hanoi). Coach Kim Sang-sik and his team defeated Thailand in both finals to be crowned champions.

The Vietnamese team returned home yesterday (January 6) to a warm welcome from fans. Fans waited outside Noi Bai Airport (Hanoi) as well as on the streets leading to the inner city to welcome the Southeast Asian champions.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received the Vietnamese team at the Government Office and awarded the First Class Labor Medal. In addition, six players Do Duy Manh, Nguyen Quang Hai, Nguyen Tien Linh, Nguyen Hoang Duc, Nguyen Dinh Trieu and Nguyen Xuan Son received the Third Class Labor Medal.
There were two members of the Vietnamese team who did not attend the meeting with the Prime Minister. They were midfielder Doan Ngoc Tan and striker Nguyen Xuan Son.
Ngoc Tan is in Thailand with Thanh Hoa club preparing to compete tomorrow (January 8) in the Southeast Asian Championship. Meanwhile, Nguyen Xuan Son has just undergone surgery. He broke his leg in the second leg of the final.
