The Legends Tour (formerly known as the European Seniors Tour and the Staysure Tour) is a professional golf tour for men aged 50 and over. Five years after the inaugural edition of the tournament, The Senior Open, was held in 1987, with Neil Coles winning the title, more than 60 professional golfers proposed the formation of an official tour. As a result, the Legends Tour was founded in 1992. Many of the pioneering champions who played on the European Tour in the 1970s, 80s and 90s are now active members of the Legends Tour. In September 2020, Ryan Howsam, CEO of Staysure Group, acquired a majority stake in the tournament in a groundbreaking joint venture with the European Tour – a unique form of ownership for a majority stake in a professional tour by an individual. In 2022, the Legends Tour has partnered with a group of celebrity ambassadors including former Ryder Cup captains and Major winners such as Paul McGinley, Paul Lawrie, Michael Campbell, Mark James, Ian Woosnam, Thomas Bjorn and Tom Lehman. The Legends Tour offers exceptional golf experiences to amateur golfers through its Alliance Series and Wapp Celebrity Series events. These two experiences provide golfers with rare opportunities to interact and compete with golf legends in a competitive playground held at the world's top destinations. |
