Saigon Newport Corporation: 35 years of reaching the world, connecting globally

Stemming from the need for a regular, modern military port in the South, as a defense, logistics - engineering, transportation base, supporting the task of protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland, on March 15, 1989, General Le Duc Anh, Minister of National Defense, signed Decision No. 41/QP to establish Saigon Military Port, now Saigon New Port Corporation.

Tan Cang Hai Phong International Container Port is the largest deep-water port in the North with direct service routes to America and Europe.

When it was first established, the main task of Saigon New Port was to serve national defense, while at the same time utilizing surplus capacity for economic exploitation. From an old military port, with an initial capital of only 17.5 billion VND and 36 officers and soldiers mobilized from units, who had never known business; up to now, Saigon New Port has achieved extremely impressive and historic achievements in terms of scale, quality, efficiency and management and operation capacity, deeply integrating internationally in the trend of digitalization and greening, making important contributions to the development of the country's economy, associated with protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland.

The port facilities and equipment managed and operated by Saigon Newport Corporation are dual-purpose: "When at peace, they are fishermen, when at war, they are soldiers", together with the forces in the Navy, they have loaded and unloaded, received military goods, ensured berths for ships of the Vietnam Navy to perform missions at sea; constructed many difficult military projects in border areas and islands; performed well the task of foreign defense, contributing to affirming the open, multilateral, diversified, proactive and active foreign policy of international integration of the Party and State, protecting the Fatherland early and from afar.

Saigon New Port is known as an enterprise that affirms the national brand in port exploitation and logistics services, has a solid position in the domestic and international markets, contributes to consolidating and enhancing the capacity and position of state-owned enterprises, and plays a leading role in paving the way for other economic sectors.

From 1997 to present, Tan Cang Saigon has always maintained the number one position in seaport exploitation business, in which 3 ports hold the leading positions in terms of the first, second and third largest import and export container throughput in the country: Tan Cang Cat Lai Port - the largest and most modern seaport in Vietnam, ranked 30th in the world; Tan Cang Cai Mep International Port - the second largest seaport and the largest deep-water port in the country; Tan Cang Hai Phong International Container Port - the third largest seaport in the country and the largest deep-water port in the Northern region.

Tan Cang Saigon's port operations industry is currently ranked 17th in the group of 20 container port clusters with the largest output in the world, bringing the Vietnamese seaport brand to over 150 shipping lines and shipping agents in the world, with world-leading operating efficiency.

Tan Cang Cai Mep International Port is one of the largest deep-water ports in the country.

Since 2013, with the establishment of two business pillars: logistics services, transportation and maritime economic sectors, Tan Cang Saigon has continued to extend its service chain, bringing the "port" to the factory and construction site for customers, forming a complete ecosystem, taking on an important link, maintaining the country's import-export supply chain to operate smoothly, even during the Covid-19 pandemic. On average, in recent years, the import-export turnover of goods through Tan Cang Saigon ports accounts for about 30% of the total import-export turnover nationwide; the import-export tax revenue from goods through Tan Cang Saigon port contributes from 16 to 20% of the Ho Chi Minh City budget revenue, about 6% of the total national budget revenue.

To achieve the above success, Tan Cang Saigon has always been a pioneer and leader in investing in equipment, extensively applying information technology, digital transformation, online services in management, operation, maintaining service quality, building "green ports", "smart services"... to improve production and business efficiency, as well as create a difference in service quality, create a sustainable competitive advantage, contribute to realizing the policy of building a digital government, helping to save costs for customers, reduce product prices, and develop the country's economy.
