3,000 athletes participate in Quang Tri Marathon - Journey to the Land of Fire

Tonight, June 15, in Quang Tri town, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province and the Vietnam Agriculture Newspaper solemnly organized the Gratitude Night and Opening Ceremony of the Quang Tri Marathon 2024 - Journey to the Land of Fire. Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Hoang Nam; Deputy Director of the Department of Physical Training and Sports Nguyen Hong Minh; Editor-in-Chief of Vietnam Agriculture Newspaper Nguyen Ngoc Thach attended.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Hoang Nam emphasized: The Quang Tri Marathon 2024 has a special significance as it leads to the Peace Festival held for the first time in Quang Tri.

This is an activity to create an important premise in forming an annual professional Marathon in Quang Tri, an opportunity to contribute to promoting the image of Quang Tri in the running community in particular and tourists in general, contributing to developing tourism into a key economic sector of the province.

In particular, with the theme: "Journey to the Land of Fire", to honor the value of peace, commemorate and pay tribute to the heroic martyrs who heroically sacrificed for the survival of the Fatherland, this race will focus on organizing activities to honor the heroic martyrs, giving gifts to families of policy beneficiaries and people with meritorious services to the revolution.

This is an activity to create new sports tourism products in the development orientation of the locality, contributing to stimulating tourism, promoting the image of people, landscapes, regional specialties, attracting domestic and foreign tourists to visit, developing tourism products reminiscent of ancient battlefields and spiritual cultural tourism.

On behalf of the provincial leaders, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Hoang Nam sincerely thanked Nong Nghiep Viet Nam Newspaper for choosing Quang Tri and joining the province to organize this Marathon; thanked the Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam, agencies and organizations for their interest in supporting and accompanying the festival of Quang Tri province and the Quang Tri Marathon 2024; thanked the attention of media agencies, reporters and collaborators for actively responding and supporting the communication work about the tournament in the past time.

Editor-in-Chief of Vietnam Agriculture Newspaper Nguyen Ngoc Thach said that Quang Tri Marathon 2024 is not simply a race but also a run to pay tribute to the land that endured countless hardships and sacrifices of the Vietnamese people during the war; it is the footsteps and heartbeat of connection and peace.

To the world, Quang Tri is a reminder of the human cost of war. Quang Tri has been building a destination for peace, building a symbol of peace through the Festival for Peace. Therefore, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province and the Vietnam Agriculture Newspaper determined that each step of the athletes at Quang Tri Marathon 2024 - Journey to the Land of Fire carries the beat of love and sharing. From there, the Organizing Committee decided that the ticket sales revenue of the tournament will be donated to the Quang Tri Province Gratitude Fund to support and care for the lives of families of war invalids, martyrs, and people with meritorious services to the revolution.

At the ceremony, provincial leaders and the tournament organizing committee, athletes and people offered incense and released flower lanterns on the Thach Han River to express gratitude and commemorate the heroic martyrs. On this occasion, the tournament organizing committee presented more than 311 million VND from ticket sales to the Quang Tri Province Gratitude Fund; and presented 10 gifts to families with revolutionary contributions.

Vietnam Agriculture Newspaper and Thien Tam Fund donated 100 bicycles to disadvantaged students in Trieu Phong and Vinh Linh districts. Vietnam Agriculture Newspaper and Tan A Dai Thanh Group donated 15 water purifiers to schools in Dakrong and Huong Hoa districts.

Tomorrow, June 16, about 3,000 athletes from provinces, cities and sectors across the country, including professional athletes who have registered to participate such as athletes Nguyen Thi Oanh, Nguyen Trung Cuong (Vietnam Athletics Team) and 6 international athletes from Japan, Australia, India will officially compete in 3 distances of the Quang Tri Marathon 2024 - Journey to the Land of Fire, including: 21km, 10km and 5km. In particular, the 21km distance has a special route starting from Dong Ha City and the destination is Quang Tri Ancient Citadel; the remaining two distances take place around Quang Tri Ancient Citadel.
