Designer Huong Vai has been involved in fashion for over 20 years. Her passion for ao dai has helped her to constantly create and spread her love for traditional ao dai to the public.
Designer Huong Vai started her fashion career in 2001.
Born in Van Giang, Hung Yen, Huong Vai has had a passion for fashion since she was a child. In 2001, her chance began when she was selected to work for a large fashion store in Hanoi. Here, being exposed to Hanoian fashion further fueled her passion. Huong Vai began to dream of having her own tailor shop, owned by herself, to unleash her creativity.
From this desire, despite having a high-paying, stable job in Hanoi, she decided to return to her hometown to open her own fashion store. In 2008, with a burning desire to wear her own Vietnamese ao dai, Huong Vai decided to switch to designing ao dai. However, at that time in her hometown, ao dai was not as popular as it is now, so Huong Vai encountered many difficulties.
Huong Vai is a student of designer Do Trinh Hoai Nam.
Not giving up, Huong Vai continued to spend time learning to improve her skills, and to gradually win over customers who are more attached to the ao dai. She attended the ao dai design training course of designer Do Trinh Hoai Nam. "The teacher opened my eyes to a new vision of the value of the Vietnamese ao dai, not just a simple costume, the ao dai is also a story of cultural history that every designer must have the mission to elevate and spread," said designer Huong Vai.
After studying with designer Do Trinh Hoai Nam, Huong Vai has transformed from a tailor to a professional ao dai designer, launching many quality ao dai collections with her own mark. Her collections have all been performed on big stages, with collections such as: Ancient Capital Identity, Reminiscing Hanoi , and most recently The Autumn Colors of Hanoi collection was performed in the Hanoi Autumn Festival program that recently took place at Hoan Kiem Lake walking street.
Designer Huong Vai has presented many Ao Dai collections.
This collection was inspired by Huong Vai's love for Hanoi, especially when autumn comes. Designer Huong Vai wanted to bring familiar images of Hanoi, combining painting, embroidery, and sophisticated embellishment to elevate Vietnamese ao dai, conveying a story about culture. The collection also impressed when the designer used many materials such as: silk, velvet, high-quality satin, bringing luxury to the designs.
Through this, the designer wants to send a message to the public to preserve and cherish the cultural values of Hanoi, because they are the soul and unique charm that make up a thousand-year-old Hanoi. "For creative artists, it is not only their passion and preservation but also their duty to spread that love to everyone through their works. Only then will the thousand-year-old cultural values of Hanoi be extended and increasingly cherished and respected," said designer Huong Vai.

When asked why designer Huong Vai chose to pursue the ao dai, she shared: "The Vietnamese ao dai is a national intangible cultural heritage. It is not only the pride of every Vietnamese person but also the honor of every designer to join hands in contributing to creative and promotional activities to honor the ao dai to a new level."
With her love for Ao Dai and dedication, in 2023, designer Huong Vai was honored and reached the top 10 National Famous Brands.
