People's Artist Tan Minh and his wife, People's Artist Thu Huyen, were guests of the Weekend Appointment on the evening of April 13. They shared their feelings about work, life and their journey together for over 20 years.

People's Artist Tan Minh is currently the Director of Thang Long Music and Dance Theater, People's Artist Thu Huyen is the Deputy Director of Hanoi Cheo Theater, in charge of operating the unit from 2022 when People's Artist Quoc Anh retires. Thu Huyen said the family has double joy because in 2024, both will be awarded the title of People's Artist.

Thu Huyen - Tan Minh were close friends, no matter what Tan Minh did, he always had Thu Huyen's help. Thu Huyen sang folk music while Tan Minh sang pop music and they never "looked at each other".

"In 1998, when I had just graduated from the National Academy of Music, I started working on my first album. By 2000, the project was realized. When I received the first album covers, I was so excited and eager to see the product that I brought them all home. Huyen came to help put the album covers together and also helped me introduce and sell the album. Our friendship was so innocent and pure that I even introduced Thu Huyen to my friend," People's Artist Tan Minh shared.

The male singer recounted that at that time they were also confused about their love life because of their old age (Tan Minh was 29 years old, Thu Huyen was 28 years old). But both of them never thought of marrying someone in the same profession because they were worried that if they kept performing all the time, no one would take care of the family.

At that time, Tan Minh had many girls chasing him and many fans. There were several sacks of letters sent to him every month to express their feelings. The male singer said he was very happy but also encountered many troubles: "There was a girl who ran away from home because of an argument with her father and came to my house. I had to persuade her for a long time, calling and telling her father to pick her up."

As for Thu Huyen, at that time, she only admired Tan Minh because he had a good voice: "In those days, artists didn't need to dance, didn't need to have many things like artists today, just a voice and standing in one place looking at them was enough to make them all 'die'", People's Artist Thu Huyen shared.

"It wasn't until Tan Minh made the album First Love Letter that he and I realized that something was no longer normal, beyond friendship, like an electric shock. Every time we met, I felt embarrassed, a moment but it completely changed my life," People's Artist Thu Huyen said.

The two never thought they were each other's other half, but when they got married, they had a happy married life for over 20 years.

People's Artist Tan Minh said that at that time, both of them had to struggle with their thoughts, a fierce tug of war between love and not love, because this was not a joke, otherwise their friendship would certainly be lost: "I struggled with my thoughts, what my head was thinking, what my heart was like, and in less than 2 weeks, I decided that this would be the woman I needed in my life."

When they accepted each other's love, both surprised their fans. "A girl who sang cheo very 'lunar' fell in love with a pop singer. At that time, everyone was talking about it, everywhere they went, they said, 'Thu Huyen cheo loves Tan Minh'," People's Artist Thu Huyen said.

After a year of dating, the two decided to get married. Because they built their love on friendship, the two artists had a lot of time to talk and understand each other. For more than 20 years, the couple has been admired by the audience for their talent and happy, scandal-free family.

"In married life, they are two separate individuals, especially artists who have big egos. They have to have that ego on stage to be themselves. But when they get married, the two will improve themselves, understand and respect each other to maintain a happy marriage," People's Artist Thu Huyen confided.

People's Artist Tan Minh believes that family life sometimes requires a little patience to achieve great things: "Things that are not worth it, that do not need to be argued about, I immediately ignore them. Sometimes that forgiveness makes me a little resentful, but when I calm down, I realize that it is just a trivial matter in life. When I hold back, the other person will realize it. That increases respect and makes them turn back to adjust themselves. Of course, in marriage, in addition to love, friendship, there will also be compassion. We must know how to pity our wife and children, and from there, it will turn into actions to share."
