On the afternoon of December 31, the Traffic Police Department (Ministry of Public Security) informed that on the second day of the New Year holiday, there were 47 traffic accidents nationwide, killing 12 people and injuring 44 others.

Also on the same day, through patrolling, controlling and handling violations on the road, the local traffic police force inspected, detected and handled nearly 7,400 violations; imposed fines of more than 16 billion VND; temporarily detained 70 cars, more than 2,800 motorbikes and 14 other vehicles. At the same time, the traffic police force revoked more than 1,500 driving licenses of all types.

Of which, nearly 2,200 cases were violations of alcohol concentration; 9 cases of drugs; nearly 1,300 cases of speed; 87 cases of vehicle expansion, oversize, and overloading; and 15 cases of carrying over the limit.

In addition, through the monitoring and surveillance system of the Patrol Control Teams on the expressways, the Traffic Police Department has detected and handled nearly 120 cases of traffic violations of all kinds. On the waterway, nearly 140 violations were inspected, detected and handled, with fines of more than 150 million VND and 2 vehicles temporarily detained.

On the railway, units under the Traffic Police Department coordinate with relevant units to grasp the traffic safety and order situation on the routes under their responsibility.

Previously, on December 30, there were 41 road traffic accidents nationwide, killing 10 people and injuring 40 others.
