Every month, teachers in Can Gio island district, Ho Chi Minh City, and many local people contribute 100,000 VND each to support students and disadvantaged people in the area.

In November 2021, the 100k volunteer group of Can Gio island district was born, attracting 50 members. Up to now, after three years of operation, the group has helped over 120 students and people in difficult circumstances.
I feel happy to receive support from teachers in Group 100k, and to be taken for a health check by teachers. I will try to study well to not let down the teachers' kindness.

Meaningful work on the day of the profession
Recalling the origin of the group, Mr. Truong Huu Phuoc (Principal of Binh Khanh Secondary School, Can Gio District) said that at that time, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the school did not celebrate Vietnamese Teachers' Day. With the desire to do meaningful work on the day of the profession, he called his friends to form a volunteer group called "Group 100k".
"That same day, some brothers and sisters transferred 1 million VND, we visited and encouraged 3-4 families. From there, the group's activities spread naturally and many teachers inside and outside the school, freelance workers, and shop owners also asked to join the group. Every month we will contribute 100,000 VND to the fund, so far we have supported 60 students and more than 60 cases of difficult people regardless of commune or district" - Mr. Phuoc said.
Mr. Duong Minh Tuan, a teacher at Binh Khanh Secondary School, shared: "Realizing that Can Gio district still has many difficult circumstances, my purpose in joining the group is to share with those circumstances. The group will go to the field to examine each case, discuss with each other to come up with a support plan.
There are students who lack clothes, school supplies, tuition fees... the group will come to support them so they can continue their education. In the case of elderly people who lack money to see a doctor, the group will support and take them to the doctor."
Do it with heart
Mr. Huu Phuoc confided: "At first, there were few members, so we supported 500,000 VND per case. Later, when more people contributed, the support increased to 1 - 2 million VND. In addition to the group fund, in any special case, the members of the group also used their own money to support more.
The members also often tell each other that 100,000 VND is not much, equal to 1-2 bowls of pho, but there are cases where they don't have money, so we support them to overcome difficult times. The group's concept is to do charity with the heart, just give without expecting favors. For students, I often remind them to study hard, so that when they have the conditions, they can help people in need."
Ms. Pham Thi Thanh Thao (self-employed in Can Gio district) knew about the group's volunteer activities so she asked to join.
"I have also experienced ups and downs in life, I find 100,000 VND very small, many times I surf the internet and use that money to buy random things that I don't use, it's a waste. But when I put myself in a difficult situation, I see the value of money is very large, it can feed a family for a few days.
The group's activities are very meaningful and can help people in difficult situations in a practical way. Through that, I see the value of money" - Ms. Thao said.
Mr. Pham Van Hung (Can Gio district), one of the people who received support, said that thanks to the money the group gave him, he had money to go to the doctor.
"I had a stroke and can no longer work. Now I just stay at home and make hats to support my children and elderly mother. I couldn't help but be happy to receive this money and I am very grateful to the teachers and everyone who helped me," said Mr. Hung.
Hope to help many people
The 100k group hopes to recruit more members so that more and more difficult cases will be helped. Not only emergency support but also monthly support for those without income, or help disadvantaged students graduate to find jobs. In addition, the group hopes to have more benefactors to adopt special circumstances.
