Since childhood, Hillary Yip (born 2004) was considered intelligent by her teachers. At the age of 5, the female student was fluent in Cantonese, English, and French and could communicate at a basic level. Despite her excellent academic achievements, the female student was discriminated against by her friends. On the one hand, in the eyes of her friends, Yip was too mature. On the other hand, the female student was not good at Mandarin.

Business ideas come from personal difficulties

At school, every time Nhung Hi tried to speak Mandarin, her classmates laughed at her. Not being good at her mother tongue made her isolated by her classmates. Nhung Hi's mother contacted the school to stop the verbal abuse, but to no avail.

From a cheerful and open-minded girl, the female student gradually became less talkative. No matter how her parents and teachers tried to persuade her, Nhung Hi could not become optimistic again. At this time, Nhung Hi's mother tried to find a way to help her improve her Mandarin.

To help their child overcome his self-consciousness, Nhung Hi's parents tried everything, from consulting an education expert to consulting a psychologist. Finally, the parents decided to enroll Nhung Hi in a summer camp - where children are discriminated against because of language barriers.

The open and friendly communication environment here gradually restored Nhung Hi's confidence. After 1 month, the female student's ability to express herself in Mandarin improved. When she returned to school, Nhung Hi's native language level surprised her friends.

Based on her own difficulties as a Chinese person but good at Mandarin, Nhung Hi thought of creating an application to help children speak their mother tongue better. In exchange for the experience for her child at summer camp, Nhung Hi's parents had to spend a lot of money. Worried about this problem, the female student confided to her parents that she wanted to create software to help parents not spend a lot of money, in improving their children's language.

10 years old creates online foreign language learning application

Sharing the idea of creating an online language learning app, Nhung Hi said: "After attending the summer camp in 2014, my Mandarin level improved. This experience made me think about creating an app to help children speak their mother tongue better."

Furthermore, Nhung Hi noticed that adults have social networks to connect and chat. Meanwhile, children are tied to online games or watching TV . "Therefore, I want to connect children together, through an online education platform," Nhung Hi said.

Nhung Hi's wish was supported by her family. Her parents sent her to a basic programming class. To create an online language learning application, Nhung Hi had to do extensive field research. At the age of 9, in addition to studying, the girl took advantage of her free time to research documents or go to language training facilities to learn.

The app But Hi created is called Minor Mynas - an online education platform that helps children choose languages through online video calls with friends of the same age. Through direct conversation, children can learn languages faster.

Speaking more about the app, Nhung Hi said : "The interesting thing about the app is the connection between children. Minor Mynas was created to help children have the opportunity to connect with their peers to remove language barriers."

Through the Minor Mynas app, children can expand their knowledge of their passion topics and learn more about cultures. But Hi believes that Minor Mynas solves the problem of time and cost, because users can learn and teach at the same time.

After more than a year of research and reading documents, Nhung Hi started building an online language learning application and planning her future business. Nhung Hi's father works in the computer field, but was quite surprised by the code his daughter wrote: "After reviewing it many times, I couldn't find any technical flaws. The business plan she came up with is not the same as the thinking of an elementary school student."

At the suggestion of a colleague, Nhung Hi's father registered her for the AIA Global Young Entrepreneurs Challenge 2015. The contest was open to high school and university students. Beating her competitors, at the age of 11, Nhung Hi won, and soon after, her online language learning application was put into practice.

At that time, the news that an 11-year-old girl won the 2015 Global Young Entrepreneur Award became the focus of media attention. Therefore, Nhung Hi's online language learning application Minor Mynas also received the attention of technology billionaires.

12 years old became the youngest CEO in the world

In 2016, Nhung Hi graduated from primary school, which was also the year her technology company was founded. At the age of 12, Nhung Hi became the youngest CEO in the world. After that, she continued to study at a specialized secondary school in Hong Kong. In addition to developing software, Nhung Hi still maintains self-discipline in studying.

However, not long after, studying became more and more stressful and there was a lot of business, there was no time to rest. The female student decided to drop out of school to focus on business. At the age of 12, becoming the CEO of a technology company, Nhung Hi had to work tirelessly to complete the Minor Mynas application.

Despite her young age, Nhung Hi's problem-solving skills and business strategies are no less than those of an adult. When programmers encounter technical problems, the female CEO can give her input. To date, Nhung Hi's creative applications have attracted millions of users.

Through Minor Mynas, children around the world can easily communicate with each other, while increasing their ability to learn languages. Sharing with the media, the young CEO said that Minor Mynas's annual revenue is about 10 million NDT (more than 34 billion VND).

Recalling his entrepreneurial journey, Nhung Hi humbly said that his success was a shortcut that did not encounter many difficulties because he received help from a technology billionaire. "I started my business when I was 10 years old. I wanted to find an idea that could change the world. If you do not believe in your own ideas, you will not be able to convince others, even if you try hard," Nhung Hi said.

The young CEO added that his success was thanks to his mentor and parents. Regarding his family, Nhung Hi's mother said: "Nhung Hi's father and I grew up in a traditional education system with endless exams. I don't want my child to go through the same situation.

Modern parents all have the view that they want their children to become global citizens, so they must learn 1-2 languages. However, the initial learning process is very difficult. Even though they are taught well, children still find it difficult to communicate fluently, because there are not many opportunities to practice in real life every day. Therefore, the family supported Nhung Hi to create the Minor Mynas application."
