Every time the Lunar New Year ends, young people in An My village go from house to house asking for cans and bottles to sell to raise funds to encourage students in the village to study.
On the morning of February 8, Mr. Ho Quang Phuoc - Secretary of the Youth Union of An My village, Cam Tuyen commune (Cam Lo district, Quang Tri) - said that the village's Youth Union had just finished collecting cans and scrap after the Lunar New Year.
This practice has been going on for the past 10 years, taking place right after the Lunar New Year.
Before Tet, the Youth Union informed households about the fundraising activities. Being familiar with this meaningful activity, people kept cans, bottles, waste paper, scrap... instead of selling them.
"This year, we mobilized more actively and effectively than previous years. The amount collected, more than 5.5 million VND, will be used to give scholarships to students in the village on the occasion of Mid-Autumn Festival, gifts for Children's Day and summer activities," said Mr. Ho Quang Phuoc.
In 2024, from this fund, the Youth Union coordinated with the village to award scholarships to 30 students of all levels in the village.
