Supplementing regulations on direct admission to grade 10
The regulations on direct admission to grade 10 of public high schools of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City for the 2024-2025 school year have added some regulations. In addition to considering students who won prizes in national science and technology competitions for middle and high school students organized by the Ministry of Education and Training or students who won international prizes in the corresponding subjects in the National General Education Program as in previous years, the Department of Education and Training has added regulations on direct admission to grade 10 for students who won national and international prizes in sports, cultural and artistic competitions.
List of subjects recognized for direct admission to grade 10 includes:

Based on the list of subjects, the Department of Education and Training specifically stipulates a list of nearly 1,008 awards according to subjects in the field of physical education and sports nominated by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ho Chi Minh City from 2021 to 2024.

Students eligible for direct admission to grade 10 must submit their applications from now until May 10.
Attached supporting documents include all of the following:
Transcripts, birth certificates, and exam registration forms printed from the system with the signatures of parents and students and the signature and seal of the school. Citizen identification card or certificate of residence issued before April 1, certificate of disability issued by a competent authority or certificate, certificate of merit, decision to nominate for exams issued by the Department of Education and Training or the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City for cultural, artistic, sports, scientific and technical competitions at national and international levels in accordance with regulations.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training also noted that sports, cultural and artistic competitions or decisions to nominate students for competitions must be issued or organized during the 4 years of secondary school and must be signed and stamped by competent authorities.
Notes for students when participating in direct admission
Staff of the Examination Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training gave specific notes to students participating in the direct admission exam for grade 10:
- Students who win prizes in national science and technology competitions for middle and high school students organized by the Ministry of Education and Training or students who win international prizes in corresponding subjects in the National General Education Program in literature, mathematics, foreign languages, history, geography, physics, chemistry, biology, and informatics can register for direct admission to public high schools (except specialized schools) and be approved by the Department.
- For students who win national and international prizes in sports, cultural and artistic competitions in one of the following two groups:
- National and international sports competitions under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism must have a written nomination or be on the list of competitions announced annually by the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City.
- National sports, cultural and artistic competitions organized or co-organized by the Ministry of Education and Training, and international competitions must be nominated by the Ministry of Education and Training and the Department of Education and Training.
Students in the above two groups are allowed to register for direct admission to high schools (except specialized schools, specialized classes, and advanced integrated schools) and are approved by the department.
For students who have won national and international prizes in sports competitions organized and sent by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and are not on the list of prizes announced by the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City, students will only be considered for direct admission to 3 high schools: District 1 Sports Talent, Nguyen Thi Dinh Sports Talent and Binh Chanh Sports Talent and will be considered by the Direct Admission Council of the Department of Education and Training on a case-by-case basis.
The examination department staff said that the Department of Education and Training encourages students who have won national and international sports awards and graduated from junior high school in the 2023-2024 school year to apply for direct admission to 3 high schools: District 1 Sports Talent, Nguyen Thi Dinh Sports Talent and Binh Chanh Sports Talent to continue developing their talents. When studying at these schools, students will receive tuition discounts and enjoy the benefits applied to athletes during training if they compete for the City team.
At the same time, during the direct admission process for grade 10, the Department of Education and Training will base on the direct admission area, the order of registration of wishes, the place of permanent residence on the citizen identification card or the certificate of residence (issued within the prescribed time) and apply the GIS map to calculate the distance from home to schools according to wishes or by region. From there, the Department of Education and Training will arrange and allocate students to any high school according to the region or wishes in the spirit of suitability for students' travel.
