Promoting Indonesian and Malaysian airlines to open flights to Da Nang

DNVN - The working delegation led by Vice Chairwoman of Da Nang City People's Committee Nguyen Thi Anh Thi had meetings and promoted airlines Garuda Indonesia, Citilink Indonesia Malaysia Airlines to increase the opening of direct flights to Da Nang.

The Da Nang Tourism Promotion Center said that during a working trip to Indonesia on August 29, a delegation led by Vice Chairwoman of the Da Nang People's Committee Nguyen Thi Anh Thi worked with airlines Garuda Indonesia and Citilink Indonesia to promote direct flights to Da Nang.

At the meeting, the delegation provided information on destinations, potential and growth of the Indonesian tourist market, the fourth most populous in the world and the largest in Southeast Asia, to Da Nang, shared information on preferential policies for airlines and received proposals from partners.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Thi pledged that Da Nang City will continue to promote communication, promote the opening of flights from Indonesia to Da Nang, increase tourism promotion activities, invite Famtrip groups of travel companies, press reporters and KOLs to experience Da Nang tourism.

Representatives of Garuda Indonesia and Citilink Indonesia expressed special interest and wanted to expand their flight network to new attractive destinations in Southeast Asia, including Da Nang. Notably, Citilink Indonesia and PT. UOS Travel Company said they have plans to open a charter flight route from Jakarta to Da Nang, expected from December 2024.

Garuda Indonesia is the national airline of Indonesia, currently operating more than 200 aircraft with more than 600 flights/day, connecting more than 90 destinations worldwide. International routes operated by Garuda Indonesia include Asia (Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Tokyo, Seoul, Hong Kong), Europe (Amsterdam), Australia (Sydney, Melbourne, Perth) and the Middle East (Dubai).

Citilink Indonesia is a low-cost, safety-first airline, currently operating 59 aircraft on more than 80 routes, mainly in the Indonesian domestic market. In addition, the airline also operates international routes to Cambodia, Timor Leste, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, and Saudi Arabia.

Previously, on August 27, Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Thi led a delegation from Da Nang City to attend a program introducing Da Nang tourism in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia). The delegation met and asked Malaysia Airlines to promote Da Nang tourism on its channels. At the same time, the two sides will coordinate to invite famtrip, presstrip, and KOLs to experience Da Nang tourism and support communication to tourists in Malaysia.

On this occasion, Malaysia Airlines announced to increase the frequency of direct flights from Kuala Lumpur to Da Nang from 7 flights/week to 28 flights/week. This route not only brings Malaysian tourists to Da Nang but also opens up opportunities to connect the Han River City with 170 destinations of Malaysia Airlines, especially the markets of Indonesia, Australia, India, Europe... which are very potential for Da Nang tourism.

According to the Da Nang Tourism Promotion Center, Malaysia is always in the top 10 international tourist markets to the city and has impressive growth. If in 2016 there were only 26,787 Malaysian visitors to Da Nang, in 2019 it tripled to 88,583 visitors. In the first 7 months of 2024, there were 75,067 Malaysian visitors to Da Nang, almost reaching the level of the whole year of 2019.
