The main export markets of Vietnam's wood industry are still the United States (accounting for more than 50%), China, Europe, Japan and South Korea.

However, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, wood production will face many difficulties in the last three months of the year. Due to the impact of storm No. 3, 170,000 hectares of planted forests in the northern provinces were damaged. Many wood processing factories were severely damaged.

Mr. Trieu Van Luc, Deputy Director of the Department of Forestry (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development), said that from the beginning of the year to the end of September 2024, wood product exports brought in 7.84 billion USD, an increase of 20.7% over the same period in 2023; raw wood exports reached 3.533 billion USD, an increase of 13.1%; non-timber forest product exports reached 777 million USD, an increase of 3.9%. The total export turnover of wood and forest products in the first 9 months of 2024 is estimated at 12.15 billion USD, an increase of 17.2% over the same period in 2023.

Commenting on the situation of wood production and export in the fourth quarter, Mr. Luc said that it will be very difficult, because the recent storm No. 3 left very serious consequences. Statistics show that 13 provinces suffered forest damage with an area of 169,588 hectares (this area does not include the area of natural forest that was eroded and slid); in which the 4 provinces with the most damage are Hai Phong City with 10,045 hectares; Lang Son with 19,729 hectares; Bac Giang with 26,415 hectares and Quang Ninh with 110,713 hectares. Many wood and forest product processing and export facilities in the northern mountainous provinces were damaged and need investment to repair and restore.

Meanwhile, some of our country's main wood product export markets (EU, USA, Japan, Korea) still face difficulties due to product protection policies, strict implementation of regulations on illegal wood explanation, regulations on non-deforestation and forest degradation of the European Union (EUDR)... The world situation continues to have geopolitical conflicts, complex and unpredictable fluctuations; the impact of high sea freight rates leading to increased prices of imported raw wood, causing output product prices to increase.
