Fines reduced by 30% after 3 months of implementing Decree 168

On the afternoon of April 1, the Traffic Police Department informed about the results of 3 months of implementing Decree 168/2024/ND-CP (from January 1, 2025 to March 31, 2025). Accordingly, the national traffic police force detected and handled 728,818 cases of traffic safety violations, compared to the same period, the number of fines decreased by 341,519 (down 31.9%); 50,973 cases had their driving licenses and professional certificates revoked; 75,202 driving licenses had their points deducted; 203,341 vehicles were temporarily detained (3,791 cars, 192,570 motorbikes, 6,980 other vehicles);

Authorities use surveillance systems to detect traffic violations.

Of which: 149,931 cases of alcohol concentration violations were handled, compared to the same period 130,340 cases (down 46.5%); 168,598 cases of speeding violations, compared to the same period 92,213 cases down (down 35.4%); 994 cases of drivers with drugs in their bodies, compared to the same period 556 cases down (down 36.3%); 10,675 cases of overloading, oversizing, and extending the body of the vehicle, compared to the same period 10,583 cases down (down 49.8%); 5,444 cases of carrying more people than the prescribed number (down 63.1%); 9,131 cases of not obeying traffic light signals (down 36.6%)...

In particular, traffic accidents decreased in all three criteria compared to the same period in 2024. Specifically, there were 4,440 road traffic accidents nationwide, killing 2,446 people and injuring 3,026 people; compared to the same period in 2024, there was a decrease of 1,821 cases (down 29.09%), a decrease of 245 deaths (down 3.91%), and a decrease of 1,864 injuries (down 29.77%).

The Traffic Police Department warns that recently there has been a situation of "lawlessness", a small number of traffic participants have shown signs of not complying with the provisions of the law on traffic safety, although they know that the penalties have been increased according to Decree 168. In order to rectify the habit of voluntarily complying with the law on traffic safety, the Traffic Police force will increase patrols, control and strictly handle 6 groups of behaviors that are the main causes of traffic accidents; handle violations according to the motto "no forbidden zones, no exceptions" thereby creating and forming a culture of "civilized", "modern" and "safe" traffic participation; operate, exploit and control traffic lights to serve the work of ensuring traffic order and safety, preventing and resolving traffic congestion; manage the testing, granting and exchanging of driving licenses for people quickly from the grassroots level...
